Best movie sound tracks top to bottom

Doesn’t matter if the movie is crap

Love the I know that you did last summer soundtrack
Offspring , l7 , toad the wet sprocket, soul asylum, our lady peace

Batman and robin is great

Goo goo dolls , bone thugs and harmony , smashing pumpkins

Pretty woman is also awesome

reply

Not including concert films: Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Dirty Dancing, Footloose, Back to the Future, Batman, Top Gun, The Bodyguard, Pretty Woman

Absolute Beginners is an example of one of the worst films with the best soundtracks.

reply

Lady in the Water.
Returner.
The Brave Little Toaster.
Leon.
The Land Before Time
Jaws.

Not sure about the order but these are cemented on my list. The first would be my example of a crappy movie with not a crappy soundtrack, although the music almost makes up for the rest and makes it good, i don't even mind rewatching it thanks to the score.

reply

Pretty Woman is an awesome sound track!

Decades ago, the soundtracks to Cat People, Bladerunner, Vamp and Fright Night made for some pretty good background music during sex... does that count?

Seduction Surrender by Grace Jones from Vamp is a decent song. Fright Night has a great soundtrack all round.

reply

The Fright Night soundtrack sounds a bit dated to me now with its 80s-synth influence although I still like the seduction songs.

Composer Brad Fiedel also composed the instantly recognizable 'da da da da-dum' hook from the Terminator films... I still play the theme song to that when I'm working out.

reply

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" and you leave out Kula Shaker?

I gotta go with "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin".

reply

I love that song! Hush hush ... great song for a slasher flick. Although in Canada that was all I heard from Kula

reply

That was also their only hit over here in Holland, but I did come across them in British pop music magazines from time to time.

reply

I heard tatva

reply

And Hey Dude.

reply

So those 3 songs

reply

But only Hush was a hit in the rest of the world.

reply

They sounded like a great band. Kind like Blur

reply

Not a big fan of either, to be honest. Just one or two good songs.

reply

Which ones

reply

Well, I like Kula Shaker's cover of Hush. As for Blur, The Universal and Song 2 is okay as well.

reply

i've never really been into movie scores, but i really love some of ennio morricone's classic soundtracks.
in particular, i like his scores for the once upon a time in america & the mission.

gabriel's oboe from the mission is an all-time favourite of mine.

I consciously left out scores from my best soundtrack choices.

In terms of best score, I'd pick E.T., Vertigo, 28 Days Later and Back to the Future, among others.

reply

i picked scores because i simply couldn't think of any true pop soundtracks i enjoyed.

but i just thought of one!

david bowie's soundtrack for christine f was one of the first bowie albums i bought. it wasn't new material. it was just a hodge-podge of material from is station to station & berlin era. but it's a great compilation of stuff from that era, and also includes the german language version of heroes - for the longest time, that was the only version of heroes i knew.

reply

The first mission impossible soundtrack kicked ass too

reply

That's My Boy
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
The Greatest Showman
Blues Brothers
Animal House
Less Than Zero
Fast Times At Ridgemont High
Valley Girl
Top Gun
Purple Rain
The Flamingo Kid

a few I can think of at the moment.
