Any good action movies come out in the last few years?

Looking for some new material for my home theater

I design custom home theater systems. Many of my clients tell me that they enjoy The Chroncles Of Riddick (for pucture and sound), Pacific Rim (for sound), The Dark Knight (for being a great movie) and Taken (for being a really good action/revenge flick). Speaking personally, I enjoy two really stupid but fun flicks, Shoot ‘Em Up and a Nicholas Cage fundraiser, Drive Angry, which has the enormous benefit of a William Fichtner performance that is worth more than the price of admission. Ironically, each of these actioners has a scene where the protagonist is attacked by a horde of people wielding firearms and worse implements is destruction while the protagonist is in flagrente delecto coitus with a shapely lady—and he finishes, in both senses of the word.

EDIT I’m recommending these movies on Blu-ray or 4K disc. Streamed versions will have compressed video and audio. For recent streaming action, watch Polar on Netflix. Dumber than a sack of hammers, but it stars the always-watchable Mads Mikkelsen, lots of violence, and sex, if that appeals to you.

Mission: Impossible 6 (2018) is probably the best action movie in recent years.

I also somehow enjoyed Red Sparrow (2018) a lot.

Robin Hood (2018). Movie is absolutely bonker but the action scenes were actually really well made.

Upgrade (2018) has tightly choreographed fighting scenes.

Mile 22 (2018) has Iko Uwais of The Raid fame as the main antagonist.

Red Sparrow isn't really an action movie. I liked it but it's not something I would flex my home theatre with. There is very little action in it.

Robin Hood is a surprisingly amazing action film. They must have hired near every stuntman working in the business for this.

reply

No. Hollywood doesn't really allow movies for white males anymore. Escape Plan was decent, but not real impressive looking.

reply

Agree, who do you think they make movies for?

reply

The Raid: Redemption (11) and The Raid 2 (14) were great ones
Dredd (12) was another excellent actioner

ETA...John Wick was really badass too

I second the John Wick movies. The latest MI movies are decent too. I thought the Accountant was pretty good too even though I don´t much like Ben Affleck.

reply

Thanks for the info
I have not kept up with the MI series...Need to catch up

The Accountant sounds interesting...I like Affleck

reply

I liked The Accountant as much or more than John Wick.

reply

Damn
Not available streaming
I'll keep an eye out for it

MI Fallout was great, probably my favorite of the series. John Wick was good but I got tired of the second one halfway through.

I bought the Raid combo, watched the first one wasn’t impressed. Some decent fight scenes but horrible pacing and script.

i agree with the raid films, though i think the 2nd one is too long. but bother are among the best action films ever made in my books regardless.

i also think last year's 'the night comes for us' was great - also featured iko uwais from the raid films.

and, even though it's a mainstream hollywood blockbuster, i thought the actions scenes in this year's mission impossible film were as good as any i've ever seen.
