Bored. Looking for something to watch

I like murder mysteries like Wallander, Shetland, Lewis, Endeavour, Inspector Morse, and Hinterland. Anyone have suggestions?

I like documentaries, too. Currently making my way through Ken Burns' Vietnam War series, so I'm open to suggestions like this, too.

What streaming services are we working with GlennY?

reply

Netflix.

reply

There's French one called Witnesses which is on Netflix - if you don't mind subtitles.

reply

No, I don't mind subtitles. Thanks, I'll check it out.

reply

another French one The Frozen Dead which I also enjoyed

reply

Added to my watch list. Thanks!

reply

One more - Trapped which is Icelandic.

reply

Thank you! I have a couple of things to check out this weekend!

reply

If you do youtube, here's a sit-down 'Hell, I was there' documentaries for the A-12. (think SR-71, but faster).
May not be suitable for youngsters or polite company due to some fairly colorful language.

I'll see what else I can find.

reply

Thanks!

reply

I didn't find it on my Netflix and my library doesn't have it either. Guess it'll have to wait.

reply

Netflix is different between countries.

Fortitude is another one to try. Also set in Iceland.

reply

Yep, I know it's different. A shame, really. But I found Fortitude at my library. Thanks!

reply

The Italian Montalbano movies.

reply

Can you please give me a bit more detail? I can't find anything at the moment.

reply

This tv series, Glen:

But I have to admit, I have no idea if you can watch it anywhere.🤷‍♀️

reply

Bummer. Checked my library, but no luck. Thanks anyway.

reply

That's a shame. I'm trying to think of British detectives I like, but I think you've seen most of them!

How about Poirot? Miss Marple (starring Joan Hickson)? Sherlock Holmes (starring Jeremy Brett)? Frost? Jonathan Creek? Death in Paradise?

How about American murder mystery shows?

reply

Poirot's on my watch-list. I forgot about Miss Marple so I'll be checking that one out. I tried the Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch but didn't care for it. I'll take a look at the Jeremy Brett version, thanks! Jonathan Creek is new to me. My library has that one so it's now on my list, thanks! I've added Death in Paradise to my Netflix list. I've seen and enjoyed A Touch of Frost. Thanks for all the suggestions, Stratego!

reply

Yay, a few you haven't watched yet!😄

reply

Yes! Considering all the suggestions I've gotten, I'll get through the long winter!

reply

You have never seen Poirot and Holmes ? My wife and I never missed these back in the 90s. Used to come on PBS on Sunday nights - back in the Dark Ages before streaming.

reply

I've led a sheltered life...what can I say?? 😔

reply

They're really great shows, especially Poirot.

reply

I almost can't believe that I've never seen Poirot. It ran for a long time, I see. Definitely on my list.

reply

I'd like to point out, though, that I much prefer the episodes from the 90s. I rather dislike the movies from the 2000s.

reply

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. There are a few series that I've stopped watching because they've changed too much or dragged things out. Downton Abby comes to mind. I stopped after series 3.

reply

mindhunter - the development of profiling within the FBI, starting in the 60s
ripper street - victorian-era police procedural
battle creek - light-hearted police station drama

reply

I've added these to my watch list. I've already watched three episodes of Battle Creek. I find it to be quite entertaining. Thanks!

reply

its a very cute set up, isn't it. all the characters are charming. and none of them are clowns, even the minor characters are pretty good cops. even niblet !

i would have thought vince gilligan would get more than a one year shot on cbs for the show to catch on.

reply

Sorry it took me so long...had to deal with a pest last night😉,
Happy valley might be something for you...and maybe the fall...although the latter is quite intense...maybe not for you👍 others have also added some excellent suggestions...hope you find what you are looking for😊

reply

The Fall is really good! Great suggestion! :)

reply

I liked it a lot! Usually televised violence has little effect on me...I found this to be way disturbing...like on a personal level? I don't know exactly the emotion...let's just say there is some real dark shit at play in this one👍

reply

I've seen Happy Valley and that was pretty intense for me. Not sure about The Fall, but it's on my list to check it out. Thanks!

reply

There are some great suggestions all ready.

I would add: Luther, Broadchurch and The Sinner.

reply

I watched the first series of Broadchurch and thought it was pretty good, but when I read where the second season goes, I bowed out. I've added Luther and The Sinner to my watch-list, though. Thanks!

reply

Luther is wonderful. Season 5 coming January 2019.
