I watched A Serbian Film (2010)

Why I don't know. I want my sanity back.

reply

I haven't seen it but it looks interesting.

reply

I wouldn't recommend it. Deals with snuff movies and child porn.

reply

yeah, I read that. I don't agree with those things but I like when movies push limits a little bit.

reply

The limits are pushed a lot in this one. Be prepared.

reply

I will be.

reply

I won't say child porn. It's more like infant porn, but the baby prop is obviously a doll so it's more about the concept that's disturbing rather than the visual itself.

reply

Porn is designed to be arousing. I don't think anything in this movie is meant to arouse.

reply

It was disgusting.

reply

It was rough viewing!
This was a total freak show and if anyone got aroused during it they should be on a watch-list!

Having said that i will offer this opinion, a film is excellent when it accomplishes what it set out to do

Wanna get horny with your best girl at the theater and rush a quickie in the back seat?
You like action and buy a ticket to see a bunch of Asian dudes kick each other in the face??

They have been making stuff like that forever...nothing wrong it and im on board

But A Serbian Film was a whole different beast...sickening, nasty, hopeless...i honestly think it deserves more mention and a 10/10 rating because it accomplished its goal and sledge-hammered it!

An amazing and horrible film that i would compare to Irreversible

reply

I've never visited this one. I saw the infamous scene on youtube once and decided to avoid it. I'm no prude when it comes to horror but I don't feel mentally prepared for this one

reply

Some movies I won't even give a chance because they seem like deliberately engineered geek shows. This is one of them.

reply

The movie becomes a parody in places because it is so over the top.

reply

I agree fully and feel similarly about Requiem for a Dream.

reply

Requiem is another movie I have been meaning to get to - maybe I shouldn't.

reply

Requiem is a much more finely crafted film that challenges the audience to examine drug addiction from multiple perspectives.

reply

Ive seen it 3 or 4 times
I think its a pretty magnificent horror/thriller and i really admire the film makers for going so far

Having said that it is certainly not for everybody...i warned my sister away from it fairly recently

reply

My wife asked me what I was watching and I said you don't want to know.

reply

I'm a creep. The movie fulfilled all my dark fantasies. Also, succeeded as being a very dark and creepy horror film. And apparently a satirical piece about homeland culture. But I don't live there so who knows.

reply

very dark fantasies.

I've seen it a couple of times now. The first time I watched it I wasn't in a good place mentally and about half way through I had to stop and just have a good cry.

I was surprised at the quality of the production. For some reason I was expecting it to be like a crappy b movie. I actually found myself caring about Milos, which made the whole experience that much more of a punch in the gut.

reply

I had the opposite reaction - I ended up hating Milos.

reply

When I first read your post I thought you were speaking generically, as in I watched a Serbian film. Never heard of this one, but based on the comments here, I'll definitely be giving this one a miss. Sounds awful.

reply

The A should have been capitalized. Avoid this movie at all cost.

reply

Don't worry. I will!

reply

No, only avoid at low cost!
