The Breakup Song at the moment...good song, they dont write 'em like that anymore!

It'll be something else in two minutes...my cd player is busted so im at the mercy of the local rock/pop stations

reply

That sucks, I never listen to radio, the stations here play the same songs all day long. You dont use Spotify?

reply

No Spotify, i only use the radio or youtube on the phones
Vynil too but that stuff is in the house and my wife and mother-in-law are in there...NO thanks!

reply

Lol I get that! Vinyls are cool. I used to collect them but I sold most of them a few years ago. I only kept my Springsteen albums. Cant let them go!

reply

Keep those Springsteens!
I feel the same about my Billy Joel albums lol!

reply

No Spotify for me either. Radio or mp3 player.

reply

One of my CD players is on the fritz and I actually pulled out some cassettes from decades ago.
The sound isn't all that great, but the music is still there, and I'm pretty picky about what I keep, so it's actually a really deep collection, approx 300 separate recordings. Those are a lot of choices !

reply

Thats alot of cassettes! I never really got into cassettes and I'm kinda glad they're gone, lol. i have a around few hundred cd's but those are pretty much just dusting away in the shelf because spotify is so much easier. No messing around with the cd player.

But speaking of Kurt Vile check this out, one of my favourites from him:

Blues Power on KLCC. Carl Stolz at the Controls. 100% locally programmed, then another 2 hours of local programming, but a little more on the Americana side.

reply

I'm still on Kurt Vile. Going through his discography.

reply

He was profiled on NPR recently. I don't remember much about it but before it was aired, I heard the promos and I thought they were doing the composer Kurt Weill, known for working with Berthold Brecht and co-writing the song "Mack the Knife." I'm sure Mr "Vile" took his name from the elder Kurt, and hopefully knows his work.

reply

It's actually his real name. I listened to a podcast yesterday where he was a guest and they talked about his name. I dont remember the details of the discussion but maybe his parents named him after the composer. Who knows.

reply

You are absolutely correct about his name. Man, I was sure he was goofing on Kurt Weill. Some might even pronounce Weill as "Vile," attempting to capture the German sound. And Weill is pretty well known in some music circles, so I figured it HAD to be an homage. (And Vile sounds like something a hard-core type might want to adopt.)
Maybe someday I'll try to get into him. His wiki makes him sound rather accomplished.

It's only an earworm I'm listening to in my head, but for some reason, I have "The Heart of Rock & Roll" playing:

reply

Thanks a lot! Now I've got it! 😉

reply

I always liked how he said the heart of rock & roll is the "beating," like when the riot police show up to shut down that filthy devil music and arrest everyone after some good baton pummeling!

It's even better if you replace "beatin" with "beat-down."

Motorpsycho The Tower

"Tosich'onyo sijibwayo". It's surprisingly catchy.

"Sijibwayo, sijibwayo!"

reply

I listen to KPFA in the SF Bay Area. They are playing their Saturday jazz program.

reply

Aaand now John Carpenter's Lost Themes. It's vinyl night for me. Vinyls and candles.

reply

Wow. Never heard that before. Great stuff!
