Do you...

Put on a movie or TV show and then pay very little attention to it? I have this habit. I guess it must be because whatever I chose just doesn't really grab me. So why don't I just shut it off and find something else?? Instead, I find other things to do - read, flip the laundry, gaze out the window, check on my critter, do the dishes, dust, whatever. Yes, I know. I'm weird.

I actually do the same thing . The exact same thing

What’s the critter ?

The critter is a hamster that I adopted from one of my granddaughters. She couldn't keep it because they discovered one of her brothers is allergic. It was the first family pet and she was really distressed that she had to give her up. She was better about it once she knew I would take her and she (Slinky, the critter) wouldn't end up at the shelter.

I do it all the time. This site is especially distracting, but I try to put on something I've seen before so it doesn't matter. If I haven't seen it I will make an effort to not get distracted.

Glad I'm not the only one who does this. Sometimes the show gets interesting and then I start over and actually watch it. It's not good though, when you happen to see whodunnit. Seems pointless to start over then.

reply

I don't. When I put on a movie I invest my whole concentration on it. If I realize that I wander around and checking my phone I'll just turn the movie off. That means the movie does not interest me enough so I'll better not waste any more time to see it through.

Happened most recently with Ready Player One. I turned it off when the protagonist just getting in the virtual reality world (by then I realized that I already browsing and checking MovieChat instead.)

Er, why do you ask? 😬

No, not me. Never! 😄

I did this until about 24, would turn on something, watch for a minute or two and then I'd have to cook or do something that couldn't wait so I would just sorta half ass listen to it. Now, I'm totally focused on movie or show. Never get up and wander around or do anything else without pausing it first.
