Hard to Find Christmas movie

I used to watch a Christmas movie with a British Grandfather who served in the Anglo-Boer War. He gave a bugle to his Grandson. I think it took place in the 1940s, though it was made much later. The boy had to play Mary in the Nativity because there weren't enough girls.

It may have been "made for TV" and came on every year. I've done tons of searches with no luck.

Ugh! That part sounds very familiar, plus the British grandfather. But I can't think of the name of it, or any other details. For some reason I think I recall it as a made for TV movie too.

If it rings a bell with me, *someone* else here has to know. If not on General Discussion, try the I Need to Know board.

Did you mean World War II, because you said it took place in 1940's or 50's? Are you sure it was WW1 because it may be easier for you to find. I did find this site which lists a lot a Christmas movies.

The Grandfather was a veteran and still had his uniform. WW2 may have been going on, but he was too old to fight in another war.

Sounds like an special episode from Call The Midwife

Call of the midwife started in 2012. I saw this show/movie in the early to mid 1980s. It would be something older, like "Upstairs Downstairs". Thanks for replying though.
