Annoying established "facts" about movies

Remakes are never good. I agree a lot are bad, and I prefer a sequel over a remake, but Dredd is awesome, and there are a few other examples.

A remake of a movie based on other source materials is not a true remake, it's more like a re-imagining. Like Batman Begins is not a remake of Batman 1989. Both are different intepretations of the same character, story, background, etc. based on the Batman comicbooks.

Fair but I still think there are true remakes that are just as good or better. Haneke's Funny Game's US is shot-for-shot and is much better in my opinion.

Cape Fear probably fits your definition and I like Scorsese's much better. Of course there are bad remakes, but to say there are no good ones isn't true.

reply

True.

There are also remakes that are equally good. They are different enough that each has it's own strenghts. For example, Infernal Affairs and it's remake, The Departed.
