Anthology TV Series

Does anyone else like anthology shows? Don't get me wrong, I love a good story arc, but as a lover of short stories, I have to say I appreciate people who can contain a story within a single episode (or season) and manage to pack a big punch with it. What are some anthology shows, if any, that you guys like?

Some of the ones I like are:

The Twilight Zone (which happens to be my all-time favorite show)
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Goosebumps (this holds a special place in my heart from childhood)
American Horror Story (some seasons are better than others, but I still really like this show)
Black Mirror

HBO’s Big Little Lies

Starz’ Penny Dreadful

HBO’s Season 1 of True Detective

HBO’s Game of Thrones

I've been meaning to get into Game of Thrones but haven't yet (I know, I know, I need to get with the program, haha); however, I loved Penny Dreadful. The third season was messy but the first two were, in my opinion, brilliant.

As I imagine that that you know, Edgar Allen Poe, who CREATED the short story format, format, stupulated that the short story, regardless of its length (or brevity) is intended to give the reader ONE IMPACT, and not the multiple impacts, or rewards, of a novel, especially limited-run, prestige series like Big Little Little Lies or Sharp Objects.

In my opinion, an anthology series is a visual short story

It really is, and I completely agree with Poe's stipulation. :)

I think we have a mutual-admiration society going here! Until E.A. Poe came on the scene, print literature was limited to the novel. Poe broadened the perspective of literature, allowing the reader to get a quick hit of fiction without having to commit days of time to it. So did the Penny Dreadful, precursor to the modern illustrated novel/comic book! To be fair, it’s entirely possible to have a short story that spans hundreds of printed pages, and a novel that is one sentence long. The conventional reality is something other. The short story is the stunning jolt. The novel is the long seduction. I value your posts, Lovely. And Poe and Penny Dreadful ROCK. PS Knowing what little of you that I do, I think you will be enthralled by Game of Thrones from the first scene.

R.L Stine's The Haunting Hour was pretty good, aside for some cheesy episodes. Another one I liked was the 90's version of The Outer Limits series, especially the first several seasons.
