Pets.

I love animals! I've had dreams about being on a farm surrounded by so many sweethearts, happy to see me and giving me love.

I'm currently dog-sitting a long haired chihuahua named Gizmo. He is in my lap. He inspired me to make this so I could learn more about YOUR pets and what they do while you are relaxin'. Feel free to share stories! I honestly love hearing about sweet babies. :)

About two weeks ago I adopted a hamster. It belonged to my oldest granddaughter who's eight. The hamster was the first pet in their house, but about a month after she got it, they realized that two of her siblings are allergic. So little hamster had to go. My son called me and asked if I was interested in having it. I agreed immediately to adopting it because I knew my granddaughter, who was broken-hearted over giving her up, would be happier knowing where her pet is. And she can still visit her pet from time to time. It's so much easier for her than having to relinquish it to the animal shelter.

The hamster is a female. For some reason, she named her Captain Slinky, which many people would consider a masculine name. I was given permission to change her name if I wanted. I haven't done so yet, but I might. Hamster and I are still getting used to each other. I'm taking it slow because following the 4-hour trip here, Slinky had to adjust to new surroundings and me, too. So far so good. Slinky has a little more freedom here. Each evening I let her roam the living and dining rooms in her exercise ball. I think she loves it because she's always ready to get in when I set the ball in her cage.

reply

I feel bad for your granddaughter but it was sweet of you to take the hamster in
I think Captain Slinky is a marvelous name;)

reply

How about Duchess Slinky in honor of the recent royal wedding πŸ‘‘

reply

Hamsters are cute pets! I like to watch their noses and their cheeks get stuffed full of food. That's so cute about the exercise ball. I bet she does love it. Captain Slinky is a pretty awesome name. :)

reply

Okay, you and Shogie have convinced me to keep her name. πŸ‘

yay! :D

You would surprised how much income one can make from being a professional dog trainer. Gizmo, that sounds like a real ecstatic dog, full of energy and kindling life, the kind of pooch that enjoys the company of others.

I have a Belgian Malinois [Mal-in-wah (French)]-Basenji [African Congo] mix named Teeny. She's extremely active, intelligent, great mouser, very sweet, and sometimes has a persnickety attitude. Loves to play fetch. A rescue dog. One time, she approached a Chihuahua puppy that was nervous towards her. She ended up licking its nose, wanting to cuddle up next to the pup, so friendly, little one was happy.

reply

He's full of energy and always wants people food. Staring at me now while I type this haha. I love dogs that fetch! I've had dogs in the past that weren't into the idea of chasing after a ball and I've had others that couldn't wait for you to throw it. Teeny sounds like a lot of fun and a sweetheart! I love that Chihuahua story.

reply

I have a Gizmo too!

You already know about my pups. Each comes with their own little back story

The day I got Tazer he dug under the fence and ran away. He lived in the woods for 8 days.
The little shit would come into the yard but wouldn't come when called.
Every day searched the woods. One night during a rain storm a friend was sitting in a chair by
the window. A loud clap of thunder and lightening then a scream.
When she looked out the window he was staring at her.

He still wouldn't come. Finally one night I left the gate to the fence open. I sat on my porch until
1 AM. He showed up, went into the fence and I ran across the drive to lock him in.
He came out of the shadows and just stared at me. He then ran over to me and just collapsed.
He ended up with over 40 ticks on him. The smell was something I've never witnessed and hope I never do again.
I slept with him on the porch that night.
11 years later he's now the biggest baby ever!

reply

This Gizmo is something else, wants a pepperoni off my pizza so damn bad. Keeps licking his nose haha!

Tazer! You little rascal! Maybe he just needed to run wild for a week. That's so heartwarming that you slept with him on the porch. :)

reply

He's going to give you the "eyes" pretty soon and you won't be able to resist.

Not heartwarming at all. He was filthy and full of ticks!
We did cuddle though. At least as long as I could stand the smell.

reply

Oh those eyes! He's been doing that and I might have given him a tiny piece of the crust.

STILL SWEET THAT YOU CUDDLED.

reply

The eyes get you EVERY time!

reply

He got me alright! Hes cuddled up behind me now, covering my black work clothes with his fur. I don't want to leaveeee! :( He's so sweet.

I adopted a lab/shepherd/hound mix when I was 20 and he changed my life. My first dog ever and he was an absolute pleasure. Sure, he had his moments where I would shake my head and laugh, but for the most part, he was perfect. Everyone knew him because he was the dog who would carry fallen tree limbs like a stick. I have many pictures of him doing so and it left lots of people in stitches from laughter. I think his only fault was that he sucked at swimming. He still loved to romp around in the water though. He was literally my shadow and followed me everywhere. I think one of my favorite memories is when he was a pup, he disappeared from the yard and an hour later, he came trotting out of the woods with shed deer antlers. He was so proud lol.

Around 7 1/2 he was diagnosed with canine lymphoma. He had 9 excellent months of being spoiled until he had to be put to sleep, with me by his side of course. I have his ID tag hanging from my rear view mirror as a reminder of those happy times. I'm 31 now and still think of him daily. This all might sound sad, but it isn't. I feel very fortunate to have been his owner and friend.

reply

AW! That's so sweet that he would feel proud of himself when he got tree limbs! I love stories like this, even if they end the way yours did. I've had to put a dog to sleep and I've had to give some to foster homes, even though its sad I feel the way you feel, fortunate and very happy that I had such great friends :)

What was your sweet baby called?

reply

Tyler. The name he came with. He was 3 or 4 months old when I got him and he seemed to respond to it, so I kept it. Plus, human names for dogs are hilarious.

reply

I have two dogs, very loyal. No one enteres in my yard without their approval

Please store your axes responsibly so there are no bizarre accidents.

reply

It's a big yard,anything can happen😊

I love animals too, especially dogs and cats. I was feeding a feral cat who I named Harry for six months. Then sadly, he recently disappeared. Via condios, amigo. Who knows, maybe he will reappear some day.

😎

reply

Maybe! Maybe he went out to get some tail! He might come back after he's all worn out and hungry.

reply

Thanks, but I kind of doubt that. I haven't seen him in nine days.

😎

reply

I've had a LOT of cats when I was younger. They would disappear for two weeks sometimes, always come back skinny and hungry. What do I know though?!?

reply

Thanks for the encouragement. Perhaps he will come back some day. I hope so. I was quite fond of him.

That brings me to Indee. Miss independence.

She was part of a puppy mill. She came up from Florida with 37 of her brothers and sisters.
While driving on the interstate the van crashed and rolled. All the puppies were running around the interstate.
They were able to gather them all.

I saw the story on the news and knew I had to help out.
When I went to get her she was with 12 or 13 other dogs at a rescue home. It was dinner time for them.
All the dogs were eating. She's the only one who came over to me to say hi. That's where the name came from.
It was love at first sight. We've been in love ever since.

reply

Oh now that is sweet! I don't know any dogs that would say Hi instead of eating. Such a sweet girl. I can't blame you for falling in love, I would have melted. You would hear an audible squeal from me.

-patiently waits for the next two stories about your pups- :D
