The Hobbit movies could not have been any better
No one could have done a better job than Peter Jackson and his team with their experience and skill level. They are experts at bringing middle earth to life.

See here's the problem, the polarized hyperbole saying the movies here were the "exact opposite" of LOTR. That couldn't be further from the truth, in a multitude of ways these films and their story are superior to the LOTR. You can appreciate both.

How exactly do you mean superhero movies? Other than a few goofy action sequences (goblin tunnels/barrels in mirkwood) the film is pretty well grounded in reality and told the story of the book pretty much to a tee.
shareThe secret of good trolling is to come up with outrageous statements that sound... possible. Like some nutball somewhere might actually, seriously, believe the goofy statement you just made.
Nobody could POSSIBLY believe that those stupid Hobbit movies couldn't have been better!
Learn the definition of trolling. Those first two films were masterpieces.
shareNot trolling at all. He had an honest opinion, and backed it up.
shareI think that makes the end result even more disappointing, we know what he and his team can do and he didn't do it. I don't think its impossible for someone else to have done it better, but he was in the strongest position to do it best. While I didn't hate the films they were a let down from the prior Trilogy. They should not have stretched a small book so far, a single long film would have been sufficient.
shareHow in the world did he not do it??
shareThe acting, the story, even the effects work didn't seem great, when compared to what he did years before. It just wasn't up to the standard he already set, and I am not sure what about the Hobbit films you think could not have been done better.
shareSmaug is a better digital creation than anything in LOTR, as are the Trolls, Erebor, Dale and even the goblins. The only CGI that looked shitty was some shots of the Orcs and Wargs and Radagast's rabbit sled.
shareSmaug was decent but overall there was an animated quality to The Hobbit films use of CGI. It just didn’t seem as good even though it had the benefit of more refined tech.
shareI particularly enjoyed ninja Legolas, and the convincing dwarf/elf romance moved me to tears! Also, I was glad to see the dwarves kicking Smaug's backside with the giant gold statue! Tolkien would approve! 👍👍👍
shareIt could have been made better, IMBO, by omitting the third superfluous part. The story of "There and Back Again" was told fully in the first two installments.
shareFound this interesting:

So apparently last year Christopher Tolkien retired from the Tolkien Estate. Now Amazon has the rights to a TV series set between the Hobbit and LotR, and bets are open on rights for the Silmarillion. I find this somewhat troubling.
Why do you find it troubling, you think it will taint Jackson's legacy?
