They should have cinemas for millennials

How young people watch movies is different to how they are expected to watch a movie.
I'm talking about a theatre that would have the lights on 'mood lightning', have free wifi. Allow you to use your laptop or phone throughout. Maybe instead of seats it could be chairs and beanbags. You could have your own speaker with you to not miss out on dialogue by people talking near you.

Maybe when you enter the cinema you join a chat room and you can group message during the movie.

Cinema is dying and it is because the younger generations just can't sit in the dark for 3 hours without being on their phones. They're wired for it. They are simultaneously existing in both the physical and cyber worlds. They can't kill off their cyber version for 2-3 hours.

We have it already here, for that matter

Not really a tech guy here, but it there anything that can block cell phone signals so a phone can't be used? Maybe theaters should use something like that.

Did you read my post? People simultaneously live in a cyber work, the network. You can’t unplug someone and what if there was an emergency? Do you want to be off the grid while someone is trying to call you to say your loved one has been in an accident?

A movie theater is a private establishment and can do what they want. Certain restaurants and bars are already doing this and I support it.

not a bad idea - a theater where smart/cell phones/tablets don't work.

You make sound like they are really living and doing exciting , fun , worthwhile things in the cyber world . What they are actually doing is watching mindless short videos of people being kicked in the balls.

Okay, if theaters start serving alcohol and letting you bring drinks into the theaters, willillenials start going to more movies?

Really, in the town where I grew up there was an independent theater that let you take your glass of wine to your seat. Good times!

People now are always on internet, i.e, cyber... They are rarely in real life...

The moment we look at our phone screens or iwatch that's it, our minds cease to exist in the real world...

It's not just millenials as a demographic generation, but rather people of all generations in our current millenial times...

Most people don't even watch movies in one sitting, they pause, play with phone, do errands and rewind... I know people who will watch a movie in 30 minutes parts...

'Cinema' doesn't need to change to accommodate them... Instead cinema has become less popular, more elite and niche... Most of the new theatres in my area are luxury VIP screens... Expensive, with waiters for snacks and such... Smaller screens than the huge theatres of the 80s, but still high quality... Respectful and well mannered audiences...

People of the millenium are not interested in film in a large scale... they prefer "content", i.e. streamed TV shows, reality TV and amatuer youtube/snapchat/whatever-app-is-popular videos...

Cinema will be like the novel, what was once something the masses could appreciate, it now becoming niche...

I'm a fossil who attends the cinema regularly. I use my cell phone regularly(not in the theater). One of the reasons I enjoy the cinema experience is to briefly escape from the world and immerse myself in a story. I cannot relate to the millennial mindset that requires to be plugged in 24/7. That said I think your description of a cinema for millennials is a great idea for those who do not wish to unplug. If there is a market for it someone should develop one post haste.
