Anyone ever sneak their own food in?

I remember back in the day theaters were a lot more against this. Back when movie tickets were like 4 bucks. I was busted a few times and they would take it away. Do they care anymore? Growing up my stepdad was a cheap ass and always made us sneak in our own candy. One time my mom had a bunch of snacks in her jacket (she's a lawyer) and the usher tried to frisk her. And she said "don't touch me or I am calling the police" we went right on in. One other time My dad snuck in burgers and fries (again he's a cheap ass. before movies started selling hot food) and the manager didn't find out till half way through the movie, and the manager was like "I am gonna take it away" and my dad was like " call the police, cause we are not leaving and we are finishing our food"

reply

Sneak,no.I come prepared with everything,it's too expensive at the theater

It was so reasonably priced in the '60s that there wasn't much to gain. The Mercury, our go to movie theatre had an entire case of .10 cent & .25 cent candy in good sized packaging. And you couldn't find those Jordan Almonds anywhere except in a movie theatre. But, they didn't have drinks, no fountain behind the counter. Just a single machine that dispensed Dixie Cups and you picked the drink. But, it was .50 so I never did that till I was married.

There was a balcony too, but, it was always chained off. We snuck up once and all hell broke out. You'd a thought we was robbing the place. Crying out, wringing of hands, running about to & fro, lights going up, movie being halted, refunds being denied, refunds being denied at the top of lungs. Just the worst parts of the Bible.

I buy 48 bottles of water at stop and shop for $4, on sale, it's $3.75 a bottle at the movies, popcorn and a drink was $14, so yeah, I would sneak in my whole fridge if it would fit in my jacket and screw those crooks,

reply

Popcorn and drinks. I was never caught. Not that they ever checked anyway.

reply

I did too, cinema food is so overpriced, they want like £5 for some popcorn! i can get a bag for 75p in the shop and it's a big bag.

reply

& by God only the top 2 inches is whole kernel. Beneath that 2 inches to the bottom is nothing but garbage.

reply

I hate when I accidentally bite into a kernel, really bad for the teeth.

reply

No, I meant the top 2 inches contain only fully popped kernels.

reply

I know what you mean

reply

You're right on the hard kernel as well, miss. I can't even risk that now my teeth are so beat up.

reply

We pay enough for the cinema ticket so it should be our choice if we want to bring in our own food.

reply

Can you imagine if it was permitted though? You'd have people bringing in coolers, hibatchies, fondus, Easy Bake Ovens, on & on.

reply

Yes they probably would

But, then as the years pile on you go back and realize after the charter and perhaps even before he was writing, producing, acting and directing from his heart. And the disappointments if they exist at all are put aside and pushed away and only the love for this man remains.

Yes, DB. I look back at the inclusion of the extensive "Mickey" materiel which I foolishly dismissed out of hand as I walked away from the threatre. WTF was wrong with me? It was a direct hit. And the closing credits over Elton John's "Measure of a Man." All those b&w stills taking us thru 1-V. That was for us, bless his heart.

Sometimes I need my ass kicked.

Yes, I didn't even take notice of that sitting there that day. Too stove up over what I thought he should have done and didn't and what he shouldn't have done and did.

By the time I've learned all these lessons it'll be time for me to go.

I dont go that often anymore but yes i have and will continue to do so

reply

Me neither, I always end up falling asleep. Went to ID-4 back then. Middle of July. By the time we waited thru the line and got in there I was drenched in sweat and just grateful for the darkness & ice cold A/C. I slept thru half the damn thing and didn't even mind. "Wake up, dad, you're missing it."

reply

LOL!
In your defense the inside of a theater on a sweltering summer day is as comfy as a warm bed on a dark winter night

Well done i say!

reply

I use to take our son to the matinées back in the early to mid 90's. I would always bring in the small snack sized bags of Popcorn & Cheetos and assorted small sized candies like M&Ms and the like.
I'd buy us each a small soft drink at the theater though.
We never had a problem there.
Other than that, we use to bring loads of goodies to the Drive-In! You name it! We brought it!

reply

Why is cinema popcorn so expensive?

reply

I read an article once that said the reason why theater snacks - especially the popcorn - are so overpriced is because most of the money made on movie tickets goes to the studios. For many theaters, profits from the snacks and drinks are the only money they make the first few weeks of a film's release.

i see

Exactly.
