Favorite Movies?

I want to know your guys's favorite movies, and why they are your favorite.

reply

Mine is Runaway (1984).

The special effects and sense of suspense and tension was just mind blowing. I like that it is tasteful and has no nudity as was the standard at the time in thrillers such as this.

What's yours Turmo?

reply

Oh gosh, idk if I could pick one... I watch so many movies that it's really hard to choose... I'd need a long time to think about it, haha

reply

You don't need a long time Turmo.

Just watch Runaway and destiny will decide for you!

😃

The Wanderers (1979)

That's a fine choice, DB!

Not run of the mill.

The wanderers is my husband's favorite one. I really like it too. So funny and poignant too.

"Destry Rides Again"

It's got edge, but, it cheats terribly by bailing out the Dietrich character. She conspired to murder, plain & simple.

reply

It starts one way:::with mayhem & murder---then reverses course to jocularity & prat fall. The mangled (man/family cheated out of their money & ranch) & the murdered (the sheriff) are shown without consideration. After that everything & everybody is held to accounts in weird ass ways & means,,,if at all. I wanted Stewart to take her ass aside and read her the fuckin' riot act for what she permitted & accompliced. Instead he plays stinky finger with her. Sure, she dies at the end, but, as a heroine. I was appalled.

Naughty Anal Swedish Nurses, Number 14, for obvious reasons. The lighting, sound design and production design are spectacular. Tarsem Singh, eat your heart out.

reply

Hi Turmo😃pleased to meet you

Why dont you share a few of your faves?
It would be a great way to start a thread👍

reply

Beauty and the Beast (1991), Reservoir Dogs and The Usual Suspects are probably my top 3. Why? Because I think they're very well made and have a great atmosphere.

reply

2/3 are really good.

reply

So is 1!

"The Heiress" from 1949. Montgomery Clift & Olivia de Havilland. She is a spinster with a modest fortune waiting for her at her father's death. He's a fortune hunter.

The father, played by Ralph Richardson is evil incarnate as his daughter learns.

The 3 combine for an experience the viewer will not soon forget.

This should not be missed.

Yes, such waste.

I was willing to give him another chance.

The wife? "No, Cully, no. She can't do that now."

Conan the Barbarian

A great adventure movie, the beginning of Arnold the movie star, cool fantasy elements, badass villain in the form or James Earl Jones, tragedy, romance, and revenge. What's not to like?

Stand by Me

The best coming of age film, the best Stephen King adaptation, the best Rob Reiner movie, River Phoenix's greatest performance, the definitive Kiefer Sutherland role, makes me laugh and cry every time without fail. Makes me yearn for childhood and appreciate my experience at the same time.

Empire Strikes Back

Exhilarating, poignant, tragic, revelatory. Star Wars doesn't get better than this. Use the internet to secure yourself the Despecialized original trilogy and you won't regret it.

reply

Conan the Barbarian

Yes, it stands up. It won't be bound by it's supposed nature. It has a mighty heart and that heart beats fiercely, & is full blooded.

Jones forces a personal vendetta for both sides..."Let him contemplate this upon the Tree of Woe. Crucify him."

There is no wandering in this motion picture.

Damn rights...PR with the early morning direct hit.

reply

Have you seen the tv series?

reply

No, do you think I would enjoy it?

reply

Well,if you liked the movie then you should give the tv series a try, maybe you'll like it

reply

I'm skeptical, but I will give it a try. I like the first one enough that I watch the sequel and Red Sonja occasionally. I tried the remake once and shut it off after 5 minutes. It was so bad I don't even like to talk about it.

reply

I feel ya.I don't even like the conan movie or the series for that matter, change the channel after 10 seconds when it starts

reply

There is a moment in "Conan The Barbarian" where "Valeria" is fleeing thru the caves. It's a long shot as a "monster" is shown leaping from the rocks on the left side of the frame. This is a tribute shot & a reenactment of a drawing by Frank Frazetta.

Stand by Me

Yes, Sutherland''s "Ace". Reiner injects "Ace" with a regularity that is diabolical. This character loiters murderous intent in damn near every scene he's allocated.

*"If either of you a thousand dollars, I'd kill you both."

*The playing "chicken" scene on the road. It's not his response to their brush with death, but, "their" response. "Ace" is already dead, most likely soon after arrival.

*"You're gonna have to kill me "Ace." --- "No problem."

& yet psychos, they're functional. He's had dealings with the Lachance family, with the late "Denny." "C'mon, Lachance, you must have some of the good sense your brother had."

---

Sutherland doesn't let "Ace" die, he keeps him undead & immediately sets him into "The Lost Boys."

------

Reiner-pushes a lot of buttons in just 90 minutes.
