General Positivity Thread

Post about something that makes you happy, gives you purpose, puts a smile on your face.

I'm gonna start with Movie Chat! Overall it has been a really good thing for me, and it's a great place to express my opinions and get ideas for things to watch.

Food! I've quit almost all my vices but I gotta eat. Also beer is still in the mix and I quite like that too.

Sex! Wish it was a little less complicated but when It's good it's good. Relationships could learn a thing or two from sex.

The Coen Brothers! I may be a little biased being from MN myself but they make me happy.

How bout yous?

reply

Oh and quite like those bubble guns.

I recently had a martini for the first time and it blew my mind. So many options but once you figure out how you prefer it made they're glorious.

reply

Time off.

I'm feeling really good having a day off right now. My ankle, which I sprained like a month ago, is finally getting back to normal. I'm back with my boyfriend and it seems to be going well. I'm planning a vacation to the Black Hills in July. I haven't smoked pot in 6 weeks and my sleep, muscles, and stomach are returning to normal. I feel really good today.

Your presence on this board has definitely been a major boost of positivity, and it is very gratifying to hear this news.

I was (ok, am) seriously depressed because of the departure of Mr. Dewey. If it weren't for you and the rest of the awesome new MovieChat class (twinA, Culburn, and others), I would have probably stepped away for a bit. So, thank you!

reply

What are you saying, Tex??? Your old friends aren't good enough for you anymore?!😢

reply

Of course not! Let's just call it a melancholic myopia. But I'm very grateful for you and for the whole MovieChat crew.

reply

I really miss Dewey, too. It'll take awhile to adjust to not having him around. 😢

reply

Thanks Tex that's really nice to hear! I thought maybe I was being a bit a nuisance but I have been trying not to feed into any negativity (hence this thread). I really like twinA and culburn too, and the more longtime posters like you, Stratego, Shogun and more have been very welcoming

That's where my wife & I took our first vacation together. We got there and I was just going to watch the Cable which was a big deal in the mid'70s. "No, Cubby, no. Get up, we're going site seeing. We're not sitting here watching Three Stooges. No." We had a grand time. I love tourist traps and there was a bunch of 'em there. Took a helicopter ride, Mt. Rushmore, the whole bit.

I envy you your trip, PR.

reply

One of these "days" I hope to get out there. South Dakota is right next door, I've been to all the other surrounding states, but not SD. My son took his family there last summer. They had a great time, all of them.

reply

It's a great place, will be about a 16 hour drive for me but I've been meaning to go back for a while. It's next to my home state but I'm not there anymore.

reply

Hm, sounds like your home state could be my current state. I just checked and it's about a 9-hour drive from where I live now to the Rapid City area.

reply

I am from Minnesota, now I live in Wisconsin

reply

Dare I ask...Vikings or Packers?

I loathe professional sports, so that's about as much as you'll get out of me on the subject. I can't understand why we pay grown men to play games, especially more money than we pay teachers or police officers. I like sports, but as soon as it's a business it turns me off.

reply

No problem. I understand your feelings. Our priorities are really screwed up.

reply

I am sorry I used the word loathe on my own positivity thread, I just can't watch that stuff or care about it. I'm definitely in a number of minority categories and my distaste for pro football is definitely one of them. If I must watch a sports game it would be hockey every time, but I don't know the teams or people, I just know the game very well.

reply

And that 1 trophy, with all those names, passed around where everyone gets a chance to lay their hands upon it. Some even taking it home over night. My eyes teem every year.

reply

Yeah I really don't want to talk about sports anymore.

At least in the NHL there is no strategy to cheat the game, nor to cheat your opponent. There is no framing of pitches, or, stall tactics, or, hard counts. No abuse of officials. If a player fakes a foul (very rarely) he's penalized on-the-spot. There is no wild response at a play review. They just take it. No back sass on a penalty call. They just go to the box and sit. There is no wild celebration at the opponents expense at goal. There is no argument when you're thrown out of the circle at face-off. We don't need to know why. He's told. They just step aside and the game continues unabated.

reply

I like curling up with a good book and an adult beverage. It's best during nice weather - I often sit outside and read. Oh, and I like to have some mellow music playing, too.

reply

At first I just read "I like curling" and then paused and thought that was a response I definitely didn't expect. But I am with you on a book and adult beverage, not that I dislike curling.

reply

Thank you for my morning laugh! 🥌

reply

You're welcome. When I actually laugh out loud I feel I must share it

reply

Watching good movies with others, then going out for dinner & drinks... The simple pleasures in life... 😎

reply

Sounds perfect
You are are doing it right

Can never tire of cute kittens playing

I feel good posting something here instead of something reactionary elsewhere. I had a good day today.

reply

"I had a good day today."

That's the line in the video tape in "Cloverfield" before everything went to hell in a handbasket.

reply

haha

Work went well, got a free evening to get some exercise, and lots of movies on the list to watch. Few drinks and good sleep to follow. I feel a general sense of contentment.
