Woohoo! Winter Olympics!

I'm gonna watch the opening ceremonies tomorrow night on NBC! Can't wait! I'm currently watching the figure skating qualifying rounds right now! Love it!!!!!

reply

Yes the winter Olympics kind of take over when they come along. So fun.

reply

Yes they are! The women's figure skating is my favorite!!!

reply

Hockey is my favorite, but figure skating would probably be second.

reply

Hockey is cool too! My husband loves watching that! :)

reply

I enjoy the ski-jumping.

reply

Yes! I love the ski jumping too!!! :)

reply

Its scary and amazing
Love it

reply

Ski jumping events are going to air tomorrow on Saturday the 10th of Feb.

reply

Thank you!
I love these winter events

reply

I never saw you as a ski jumping fan.

reply

I admire the dedication
Thats a broken neck if they land wrong
Its a level of devotion and training that i find very inspiring

reply

Meh. I haven't watched them in years. They've become too politicized.

reply

They'll be handing out a record 110,000 condoms at the winter games this year.
It's still all about "doing it" for your country.

reply

Thanks, I needed to know that.

reply

LOL.

Why do you think people really want to go to the Olympics?

reply

That's a long way to go for something you can get closer to home. Oh wait...

reply

The best part is the athletes get sponsors and people to pay for it.
It's like we're all pimps.

Seriously, the stories of what happens in the Olympic village are out there.
I don't think you really want to know.

reply

Probably not. Don't want to spoil the Olympic image. πŸ™„

reply

Haha.

I would think more happens during the winter games.
With everybody being so cold and everything.

reply

Tsk, the condom dispenser at my front door goes through a lot more than that.

reply

What about the one at the back door?

reply

No one goes through that door anyway, so what's the use?

reply

Oh, I get it. That's the exit door.

reply

"You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!"

reply

😲😟 Uh-oh...

reply

I don't see how.
It doesn't even accept dollar bills.

This is for the whole winter Olympics not the weekend.
Sorry, I should have been more clear.

reply

So my world record was never in any danger? Phew!

reply

I venture to say that a record of your caliber will never be in jeopardy.

If you get a machine that accepts dollar bills I can't imagine what you'd be able to do.

Hold on, yes I can imagine it. I'm looking at my checking account right now.

reply

LOL!

😎

reply

Fuck South Korea and their dog meat trade!

reply

that's worse than bunnies

reply

Yes i have it here. All kind of winter sports and free.

reply

The NHL players are not there so I am boycotting these Olympics

reply

Are they not allowed?

reply

The NHL and IOC could not come to an agreement so there are a bunch of nobodies playing. Not interested.

reply

I don't blame you.
I thought all of this crap was behind us.
They say it's the world's best but that's not the case.

I haven't watched the Olympics since the whole Ben Johnson fiasco.

reply

Ben Johnson, that was 1988. I got caught up in Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt in 2016. Two great athletes.

reply

88 sounds about right. It was a long time ago.

After that it just soured me on the Olympics.
I'll take the miracle on Ice over all of it.
Still remember where I was that night.

reply

I was glued to the TV during the Miracle on Ice. We hated the Soviet hockey team here in Canada.

reply

It's weird I never was a huge hockey fan.
I was more so back then. Going to college hockey games not so much the pros.

Yet I still remember exactly where I was during this game.
I can't say that about many things in my life.
For some reason this one is etched in my mind.

reply

The win over the Soviets was on a Friday and the gold medal game against Finland was on a Sunday. Both games on are youtube and a few years ago I went back and watched both games. Al Michaels was the play by play guy. I remember my father was stunned when they beat the Soviets.

reply

It's one of those things that people think was the last game.
Like game 6 in the 1986 series. The ball went through Buckner's legs but that wasn't
the last game.
The US still had to play another game.

I think everybody was stunned that we won. Even most of the US.
I remember that a couple of players from the college hockey team I watched
were on that team. That may be why I was so involved in it.

reply

The Finland game was also a good close game.

Do you remember the players' names ??

reply

Mark Johnson
Bob Suter

Still remember them to this day.

reply

Bob Suter died a few years ago. His son Ryan is a pretty good NHL defenseman.
Johnson was a journeyman NHLer and went on to a successful NCAA coaching career.

reply

I knew about Johnson becoming a coach.
Women's hockey right?

I don't remember hearing that Suter died.
Too bad, I'll never forget the name.

reply

Suter died from a heart attack playing shinny hockey I believe.
Johnson is coach of U of Wisconsin-Madison women's team.

reply

At least he died doing something he loved.
If we could all be so lucky.

There you go. The lady Badgers.

reply

I was watching some of the opening ceremony (it was on one of the TVs in the bar), and a thought occurred to me:
What if they skipped this silly extravaganza, and the halftime show at the Superbowl, which nobody watches, and use the money to feed homeless people or people in third world countries?

Thoughts?

reply

This and all companies that spend millions of dollars on "tests" and "reports" on different things.

Hollywood alone spends millions of dollars on things that never amount to anything.

Imagine what a wonderful world it would be.

Now if a man tried to take his time on Earth
And prove before he died
What one man's life could be worth
Well, I wonder what would happen to this world?

reply

why don't you cash in all of your investments and give it away to the poor and homeless ???

reply

Why don't you?

I am not a Socialist

reply

Good answer. I'm not either. I just think some things are just such a waste of money.
