Never any lack of overt hypocrisy coming out of Hollywood.
shareSo should he have not accepted the award and possibly lost out on future work? I'm not trying to argue with you or anything, I'm asking out of curiosity. I don't disagree that the world is full of hypocrisy, but I don't know what he should have done. Maybe just not show up?
shareThat's fine. I can handle a good argument if it's based upon sound reason and yours is, for the most part. I think you're distorting however and obviously misquoting me as well . I didn't say " the world, " those are your words. I was focused on the blatant hypocrisy of Hollywood in general. We're all guilty of that to an extent but it seems Hollywood is in the realm of pathological.
Btw, I think Oldman is a fine actor and probably deserved the award. I thought his portrayal of Lee Harvey Oswald in JFK was uncanny.
Everyone here has at some time found himself caught between a rock and a hard place. How that's handled is inevitably going to draw criticism from someone.
I did specifically say the world, because hypocrisy is something that is everywhere and I didn't feel right just condemning just Hollywood. So yes, those were certainly my words and not yours and I didn't feel like I was purposely misquoting you as anyone reading could see that you didn't say world.
Like I said I wasn't criticizing your comment, I was just curious, in your opinion, what should Gary Oldman have done not to have been hypocritical?
We're somewhat on the same page concerning hypocrisy. I was trying to make a distinction. Consider what we normally refer to as a white lie compared to a pathological liar, which is what I compared Hollywood to. That's just my opinion, which you obviously don't share.
You're asking me to Monday morning quarterback in this situation and though I'm a very empathetic person, I'm just not going to do that. I already gave you my opinion of him as an actor.
And that's fair. I wasn't trying to corner you. I also had to look up what monday morning quarterback was. Lol. (I was like, but it's Tuesday).
I just think that Hollywood appears more hypocritical because they get so much more attention.
Amen, Bro.
