Name of movie with man in empty pool

Movie is older than at least 2008. ( im thinking moreso 2006 or older but I could be wrong). I dont think the whole movie centers around the man being in the pool. I dint know if he is stuck or willingly in there. There may or may not be a chair in the pool. I think the pool is overgrown by plants and vines. Very slow-paced movie. It came on either HBO or Cinemax, or any one of those type of channels. I apologize for being all over the place. Also, I really wish there was a board to discuss movies people have forgotten the name of, because I have plenty!

I doubt this is the one, but my first thought was The Swimmer.

Was it a comedy-type situation? What about A Good Year?

reply

This is the movie!!! Upon watching the trailer, i cant believe you were able to guess the movie on such a small insignificant scene lol. I have no idea why this scene is the only one that stuck with me throughout the years. Thank you for figuring it out :)

And that is what I love about this place. I never heard of A Good Year, but now that I have read about it as well, I look forward to seeing it now! I admit, I was intrigued by your post.

6.9 on IMDB, and 26% on RT. Doesn't sound like a blockbuster.

it's fun... It's Ridley Scott's version of a romantic comedy... it's beautifuloy shot, well acted and light with a lot of heart...

I think some people didn't like that it wasn't the usual romantic comedy with the nerdy guy who learns to be a doormat in order to get the girl... this isn't that movie, and it pissed people off...

All righty then.

Well, MovieMan, most of the films I enjoy were never blockbusters.

The same is true with me MissMargo.

BTW I watched the preview and the diving board broke dropping Russel Crowe into the empty pool. If there had been concrete in the pool, he would have been seriously injured. But fortunately it was just dirt, so he was okay.
Apparently this was a comedic moment.

The story was almost secondary to Provence's gorgeous countryside. I liked Marion Cotillard's performance as Fanny. I've been a fan of hers since she played Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose.

Glad you got your answer so quickly!

You might also want to try the "I Need to Know" sub-board. That's where these types of questions often were on the old IMDb boards, anyway.

On MC, it's the first link under the "Trivia! Trivia!" section, or direct link here:

Wow i had no idea! Thanks! Doesnt seem to have as much activity as it does on this board but i posted on there anyway to see if i get a response. :)

Except for the vines, your post describes Caddyshack to a T.

I see there is the proper response, but I thought of a grim crime drama, Sexy Beast. I think a boulder tumbles out of nowhere into Ray Winstone's pool. I may be mixed up, but it was an odd detail in a rather odd movie.
I also remember something from Breaking Bad where I think a part of a plane landed in someone's pool, but again, I don't remember all the details.

reply

Hellfire rained down on someone's house, where his children sleep.

Sexy Beast was greatly under appreciated
A wonderful thriller/crime drama
