Creepy movie scenes that were downright chilling material (avoid actual spoilers)

Let's respect ourselves here and don't include jump scare scenes. I mean there are some meticulously crafted ones like the notorious Exorcist III one, but let's be honest, for the most part they are cheapshots.

I will include 2 :

1) Lake Mungo (2008) : Those who have seen the movie probably know which one i am talking about, movie's events culminate to something truly terrifying, one of the few times i felt genuine terror down my spine.

2) Pulse (Kairo) (2001) : The ghost sequences were creepy af, very unsettling to watch.

First one that comes to mind is Audition.
Many creepy scenes in this movie.
The scene with the bag is the one I thought of first.

(Contains spoilers about Split, Jacobs Ladder, and a Black Mirror episode)

In the movie Split
when he transitions into the monster
In the movie Jacob’s Ladder at the very end when we realize this entire movie took place in the mere seconds of a soldiers death
I still get emotional thinking about this. Same way I am with the Black Mirror episode Playtest.
Movies dealing with death has always frightened me. Even as a child, watching the movie Ghost, with the scenes of those demons coming to drag the evil characters to hell, gave me living nightmares! Speaking of dragging people to hell, the very end of Drag Me to Hell also affected me when I saw it. Very creepy.

Fire in the Sky. When the aliens are experimenting on Travis. My father brought me to see that movie when I was 5 or 6 folks. I remember him muttering "maybe we should have gone to see Homeward Bound" (it was playing in the next theater over).

“What Lies Beneath” with Harrison Ford (a different genre for him) and Michelle Pfeiffer. No slasher film, which I in no uncertain terms, will not watch! This is a true edge of your seat, CREEPY, skin crawling film. I could believe Hitchcock directed this; it had the absolute shock value. No scenes for me to mention as the whole film is “spoiler rich”. Wow! The ending left me stunned and with what makes nightmares.

Another CREEPY film which I could not shake off was “The Night of the Hunter” starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters. Mitchum played a character who was the embodiment of evil. Every time I hear the hymn “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” I think of this movie! Shudder, Shudder! Charles Laughton directed this must see film.

Both of these films incorporated water into the script.

The ending of lake mungo was brilliant. Made the hairs on my arms stand up.

i agree. i think that is a truly unsettling film. one of the best uses of the found footage/documentary format.

i might watch it again tomorrow since this thread has planted the idea in my head.

Yeah, it's been about 4 years since I saw it last. I think I might rewatch it too 👍

There's some great ones in Dear Mr. Gacy 2010.

I still find the opening scene of Jaws to be highly disturbing. Maybe because I grew up on the shore close to the location of filming.

Did you go back in the water? 🐋

I often find the non scary parts scarier. The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre film, the way it looks from the start, the desolate rural area, the isolation. It sets a scary tone, factor in when it made there weren't any cell phones etc and you really get the sense of how alone they are out there and they are outsiders.
