Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are engaged

Anyone willingly marrying into that fucked-up bunch of murderous twits needs their head examined.
So does anyone leaving a beautiful city like Toronto for an overcrowded shithole. I should know, I live in this overcrowded shithole. Although of course it will be a much nicer experience for her than my peasant self.
Ever see Trading Spaces?
shareIs that the show where people redecorate another person's house? Scary premise.
shareI don't like the royal family. I don't think we need them, all they seem to do is live in luxury, shake hands, and go on holiday, they sweep through the streets of London in flashy cars, yet on those same streets sleep homeless people who haven't even got a hot meal or a warm bed for the night.
shareMe neither. Besides being meaningless figureheads, there is also a corrupt and sinister side to this institution. Does this woman even know what she's getting into?
And to have to give up her entire life as she knew it? I did something similar for "love" albeit on a smaller scale, and it was the biggest mistake of my existence. Don't move for someone. Least of all to join this fucked up family.
It's a dream come true for some.
Imagine living in London, ickked out. Someone from Toronto wants to trade spaces.
If it were temporary, you'd be coming back to royal decor. If it were permanent, you could go to the Blue Jays games.
"Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you." -Diana Spencer
Well, there's living in London, and then there's living in London.
If you marry a prince or indeed have your own wealth as she probably does anyway, it's going to be comfortable and exciting.
If you're just a pleb/ordinary person, living in London is NOT the dream you think it is. It's not all tourist attractions you know. The real London reality for most people is grimy, noisy, cramped, nasty, overpriced, unaffordable to live anywhere but a shoebox.
Of course, that will never be her reality. She'll be in Kensington Palace. Although, I heard she already has her own car over here. Well even just trying to DRIVE around London is a horrible experience compared to beautiful North American roadways. It's grimy, noisy, cramped and nasty on the roads here too.
Sounds a lot like New York City. There's the Hollywood version, and then there is the unaffordably expensive reality...
shareYes, very much so. Real life in London is very tough and nasty for many people. Wages have not grown with living costs, there's a housing crisis, and it's not even visually pretty as soon you step away from the tourist spots. Real London is an eyesore and a struggle to live in.
shareI pretty much thought of NYC immediately too...
shareThe ironic thing is, too, that over here on the other side of the pond, for a lot of people it's a "dream come true" to get away from the sad, dark British Isles and in fact live in America, Canada, Australia or ANYWHERE else but these blighted shores. It's not great here.
Everyone over there has a fantasy about over here. While a lot over here want to get over there!
I was around for Diana and Prince Charles' wedding and couldn't believe how much coverage it got worldwide. Sure, I watched a little of it, mostly because I knew so little about the royal family and was curious. No, I didn't get up in the middle of the night to watch the wedding.
This time around, meh. Already the coverage is ridiculous. It'll be a thousand times worse - everything will be scrutinized and analyzed. 🙄 I do wonder if she really understands what she's getting herself into.
give it a few years and Harry will have a mistress or two and Meghan will be stuck in one of the castles drinking martinis all day.
shareI guess everyone expected this. I wonder if she has to renounce her U.S. citizenship to accept a title of nobility.
shareI sincerely hope she does not, because if or when this doesn't work out she could always go back and resume her life. You need to keep your options open when you take a risk like this. And it is a risk, she doesn't know what she's getting into.
shareI find the English royals fascinating...i just wish they all behaved better lol
Still, as a 'Yank' i think its quaint and historical and kind of cool
Best wishes to a fine looking young couple and cheers to many years of comfort, public service and many cute chubby babies!
Ill peek in on the media craze on wedding day...cool stuff!
Who cares?

I wish Canada was a republic
share
Isn't it?
😎
No we are still technically a monarchy with the Queen as head of state. Hard to believe.
shareBut the Royals only have tie-breaker authority in your Parliment right?
shareThe Speaker has tie breaking authority in Parliament. The Governor General is the Queen's representative who signs legislation into law.
shareOh so pretty heavy pull then
Interesting...
But i bet the royals dont screw around too much with the people or theyll enjoy a very vocal and eventually violent uprising if they want to press things?
Monty!! Nice work MovieMan...a true classic:)))
And probably 90% true of the elite in any country lol
Still...i simply hate to not give 'em their chance, so fingers crossed for 'those two crazy kids' over there;)
Thanks and LOL, Shogun! Yeah I hope those two crazy kids make it okay.
😎
I'm happy for them, congrats! The Obamas are happy for them, too!
