Oh ok, so you delved into the horror genre as well, drama/horror is always an interesting blend. I have watched Martyrs and it disturbed the life out of me a truly unsettling watch throughout.
Audition is one of my all time favorite J-Horror flicks it has much more depth than what the eye initially meets, it has very high rewatchability (my word) value.
Mysterious Skin - I do own but haven't watched it yet, obviously can't wait to experience it.
The Road - Unfortunately wasn't as effective as i thought it would be, gotta give them props for the gloomy and grim atmosphere they crafted.
Since you are down that route, you might wanna check Kairo ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0286751/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 ), it's a drama with horror elements from one of the masters of cinema Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
The ending of Mysterious Skin is devastating.
Audition was very well done but open to interpretation.
I agree the Road was a bit of a letdown.

As a sidenote about Kairo, in recent years there were 2 sequences in horror movies that made my spine chill : The ghost sequences in Kairo and the notorious scene in Lake Mungo. If you watch it you ll know what i am talking about, just be prepared!
