Who finances North Korea??
How do they even have money?
shareIt is a commodities based economy (minerals/coal/iron ore). 75% of its exports go to China. Its total GDP is around $28 billion (same as Vermont) with a population of 23 million. So its a very poor country that has managed to obtain a nuclear capability. I think we can thank China.
And Obama for empowering China and Russia and all the rogue states that threaten the existence of the west.
shareThe North Korean problem goes way back before Obama. See the Korean War 1950-53, I don't think Obama was born.
shareChina growing as a super power doesn't, in his godawful social media presidency he did nothing to curb China.
shareYou can thank Nixon for China.
shareNixon made China communist?
shareNo, but he opened the door for relations with them. Ronnie "I Forget" Rayguns was the one who opened the floodgates for our manufacturing to go there on a wholesale basis.
shareHe opened the door for trade with China but could have never predicted the mass exodus of companies to China. Before China, most American goods were manufactured in Vietnam and the Philippines. As long as free trade exists with the World, companies will always find the cheapest place to make their products. I imagine someday it will be too expensive to make products in China and companies will find another Country to exploit. The only frontier left for cheap labor is Africa.
shareTrue, and doubt he would've encouraged it, and I'm no Nixon fan. As far as USA goods being made overseas pre-China, I'd respectfully disagree it was "most" goods. Certain things were, but not most. You could still buy many things made here. Now it's almost impossible except in certain cases and completely impossible in others.
shareI wonder how long the made in China phenomenon will last.
shareNor did any president since Reagan made it OK for manufacturing to move there. That includes dubya and big bush.
share"And Obama for empowering China and Russia and all the rogue states that threaten the existence of the west."
Complete and utter nonsense
My understanding is that they export a fair amount of their food production to China as well despite the well known issue of malnutrition. At least in the years when they do not suffer extensive rains or drought. Usually national economies that have resources such as iron and coal do not go the path of extremism in terms of leaders that NK did.
shareNo doubt that NK lateness to the industrial age made it prone to a dictatorship. Usually the leader from one resource rich region has a seat at the table which is multiplied by the number of resource rich regions for whatever type of government that exists. A lot of times that has resulted in one national leader but with the understanding that he or she has a layer just underneath that he or she has to answer to.
shareI think its mainly China and Russia that keeps them from going bankrupt.
sharewhat do they buy from North KOREA? Or how does that work?
sharecommodites/agricultural
shareI am no expert on the subject but I remember watching the news about it. Russia sells oil and natural gas and as for China I am not sure. I assume they are giving them money. Its odd that NK seems to have an endless supply of money to develop all these new weapons even though they are under an embargo like Cuba.
shareExactly. So what does that mean?? That fucking Obama spent 8 years allowing this?? In other words, not sanctioning China and Russia? This is sick.
sharePretty much but every President has done nothing. We even give Pakistan a billion dollars a year.
shareBlaming it solely on Obama is only underscoring your own complete ignorance of the facts.

Russia and China provide resources in exchange for the destabilization of the Korean Peninsula. North Korea also provides slave labor to Russia. I guess you missed the big NYT piece a few weeks ago.
shareThey are a communist state, all industries are controlled by the government. As far as we are have been made aware.
shareChina pretty much keeps the show running in North Korea. Without China, North Korea would've collapsed years ago, just like the Soviet Union did back in the day. NK basically serves as a border of communism between China and South Korea. They see a united Korea as a threat, thus they want to keep things the way they are.
sharewell thanks to fucking Obama who did nothing to curb China.
shareYou mean just as every president since ronnie I forget did nothing as well?
shareexactly. Doesn't excuse Obama.
shareSo why lie that it was his fault alone?
sharebecause by his presidency China is already a bigger manufacturing power than USA, and North Korea was as powerful as ever, he should have done something but he spent 8 years taking selfies so what can you expect.
shareChina was a bigger manufacturing power than the USA way before anyone ever heard of Obama, and NK was just as powerful when dubya was in office. Dubya actually lifted sanctions. Do some research. But you have some mythical ax to grind, obviously.
