Why isn't George W. Bush in jail?

I don't get it. He got the US in an illegal war under false pretenses. How could this happen?

reply

Don't forget to blame him for the Hurricane Harvey fiasco as they did for Katrina. "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong" because it's Bush's fault!!

reply

Uh...sorry, ksp., but who named the former commissioner of the International Arabian Horse Association head of FEMA? And we all saw what a fiasco that was. Dubya totally effed up the handling of Katrina, like it or not..."Yer doin' a helluva job, Brownie!"

reply

Napster,
May I have the privilege of disagreeing with you? The fiasco was caused by New Orleans "Chocolate" Mayor Hagin, who currently resides in the pokey. School buses remained parked instead of being used for evacuation.
"Blanco and the mayor waited until Sunday, Aug. 28 — only 20 hours before Katrina came ashore — to order a mandatory evacuation, the first of what disaster experts and Louisiana insiders say were serious mistakes by the governor."

"But experts say when natural disasters strike, it is the primary responsibility of state and local governments -- not the federal government -- to respond.
New Orleans' own comprehensive emergency plan raises the specter of "having large numbers of people ... stranded" and promises "the city ... will utilize all available resources to quickly and safely evacuate threatened areas."
"Special arrangements will be made to evacuate persons unable to transport themselves," the plan states.
When Hurricane Katrina hit, however, that plan was not followed completely.
Instead of sending city buses to evacuate those who could not make it out on their own, people in New Orleans were told to go to the Superdome and the Convention Center, where no one provided sufficient sustenance or security."

"Before the storm hit, Amtrak ran equipment out of the city. With rooms for several hundred evacuees, they offered the spots to the city. Officials declined, so the train left with no passengers."
"Mayor Ray Nagin, in response to the offer of an Amtrak train to evacuate New Orleans residents, rejected the offer, declared an emergency, and then canceled it. He then flew to Dallas with his family."
"CNN and Fox News reported the Louisiana Homeland Security Department (which operated under Blanco's authority) refused to allow the American Red Cross to enter the city of New Orleans."

reply

You didn't see me defending Nagin, did you? Yes, the city was also to blame. But saying dubya was blameless is wearing extremely large blinders. He screwed it up royally.

reply

How? Information please. I've read and re-read about his part. What am I missing?

reply

He put a completely unqualified, completely incompetent guy in charge of FEMA. He didn't try to countermand some of the stuff NOLA did. All he did was make an appearance in a completely unaffected area, make the appropriate clucking noises, and left. The guy was a screw-up beginning to end.

reply

Napster, as per you:
"He didn't try to countermand some of the stuff NOLA did." He did, but they would not agree.

"It certainly appeared that there was a lot of indecisiveness exhibited by the governor in the early stages of the disaster," says Louisiana State Democratic Senator Donald Cravins.
A key criticism: the governor's slowness in requesting federal troops. She told the president she needed help, but it wasn't until Wednesday, Aug. 31 that she specifically asked for 40,000 troops.
That day, in a whispered conversation with her staff caught on camera, the governor appears to second-guess herself.
"I really need to call for the military," Blanco tells an aide.
"Yes you do, yes you do," is the reply.
"And I should have started that in the first call," Blanco adds.
Another key mistake, experts say, was Blanco's lateness in getting the Louisiana National Guard, which she commands, on the streets to try to establish security.
"It would have been better if it had happened sooner," says Jane Bullock, a former FEMA official during the Clinton administration."
"On August 27, 2005, Governor Blanco, speaking about Hurricane Katrina, told the media in Jefferson Parish, "I believe we are prepared. That's the one thing that I've always been able to brag about." Later that day, she issued a request for federal assistance and USD $9 million in aid to U.S. President Bush, which stated, "...I have determined that this incident is of such severity and magnitude that effective response is beyond the capabilities of the State and affected local governments, and that supplementary Federal assistance is necessary to save lives, protect property, public health, and safety, or to lessen or avert the threat of a disaster."
"FEMA issued a statement dated August 27, that President Bush authorized the allocation of federal resources, following a review of FEMA's analysis of the state's request for federal assistance."

reply

Again, ksp, you obviously want to whitewash dubya's huge level of incompetency in handling it, though God knows why. What he said and what he did are 2 very different things.

reply

Seriously, I'm not whitewashing Pres. Bush. He went along to get along. He never vetoed a spending bill. In all honesty I'm attempting to equate what he said.... to what he did or didn't do. You seem to be getting testy with me for no reason. I cannot locate info where he failed in Katrina. Maybe with Brown? I do recall reporters asking victims in New Orleans if George Bush was to blame. The answer, "No, it was Nagin's fault!"

reply

Not getting testy. Just saying dubya totally effed the whole thing up in his handling of it. And I also remember a whole lot of NOLA folks blaming Nagin AND dubya.

reply

I believe we are at an impasse. You believe what you will. Until someone proves otherwise or I can locate factual data of his failings, I believe what I've read so far....he did not totally goof things up. I will repeat one important item: By law the Federal Government cannot step in until requested to do so by the affected state. Gov. Blanco did not until much later and admitted to her failings. Pres. Bush wanted to send federal troops into the state; both Blanco & Nagin gave a resounding "No"!
You win the debate as I forfeit. It's not worth arguing about.

I should have stuck to my resolve of not doing a back and forth with you regarding Bush or Trump. You have as much disdain for them as I do for that bigoted community organizer who did bring "change" to this country....and not for the good. We will never pull ourselves out of the quagmire he created. History will not treat him well.

reply

Except you're wrong when it comes to many of the things you say about Obama. Especially considering the actual idiot we have there now...just wait until you see what kind of change he brings.

reply

OK, Napster, I shouldn't, but I'll bite. Why am I wrong? And why are you right? I don't recall saying too much about Obama; I would just as soon forget about him and the Clintons. I want the nightmare to be over. I forgot about Bush...he was easy to forget.
I do believe he was genuinely a nice man, but you're correct, he should never have been president. He wasn't dirty enough like the ever so smooth, charismatic "community organizer". He wasn't slick like Willy from Arkansas. And believe me when I say, one hand held my nose while the other hand shook when I voted for Trump. It is very difficult to defend him as long as he keeps running at the mouth.

But, he is getting some things done....we just don't hear about them because the lib news is concentrated on what shoes Melania is wearing. How shallow! Not a word about the hero policeman who drowned in his patrol car doing what he thought he should...helping his fellow man or woman!

reply

What, exactly, has he gotten done, ksp? Please list his positive accomplishments. And if you held your nose to vote for him, why does your husband still wear a cheeto hat? And, BTW, you don't think the Bush family is dirty? Wow. Just wow.

"we just don't hear about them because the lib news is concentrated on what shoes Melania is wearing"
You mean the same way the con news was concentrating on how much Michelle's dress cost, or the fact she wore something sleeveless, or that she appeared on a talk show or magazine cover? Or that she dared to try to get schools to serve kids healthier foods? You mean like that? How shallow! In fact, IIRC, the imbecile in chief you helped elect criticized her for not covering her head in Saudi Arabia, but it was OK when his wife didn't in May.

But you go right ahead and blame Clinton and Obama for all the ills in the country. It's sad, really. I thought you had deeper intellect than just parroting right nonsense. Still like ya, but very disappointed

reply

"Or that she dared to try to get schools to serve kids healthier foods? You mean like that?"

Oh, are you referring to the food the kids wouldn't eat so it was sliding off the tray into the trash?

Well, my husband sure isn't going to wear a Hillary hat!

Yep! Trump has a big mouth which needs to be curtailed. It's referred to as "Foot in mouth disease".

Then we have the left who has "Trump Derangement Syndrome".

"I thought you had deeper intellect than just parroting LEFT nonsense."

I still like you, too, and you a "yellow dog" democrat! Which makes me disappointed.

reply

George W Bush can't be put on trial in International Criminal Court cause US would have to sign a Rome statute to be a part of it. Actually, Clinton did sign it at one point, but it never went through the Senate so that signature doesn't count. The only way Bush can be persecuted is if americans do it themselves. I don't think american courts are interested in doing that.

reply

Only some Americans aren't interested

reply

Many people all over the world are interested, but Dubya was just following orders from Deep State people when he used forged evidence to start a war. Deep State will never allow the trial to happen cause Dubya might start giving names to save his skin.

reply

He was full of secrets and running on empty.

reply

It's sort of difficult to prove someone knew their 'pretenses for starting a war' were false to begin with. And as others mentioned, Congress put their seal of approval on it.

As others have mentioned: it's basically impossible to be convicted of a crime if you are, or were, president. It just doesn't happen in this country.

The only president to ever receive any sort of legal charge or punishment for actions committed in office was Ulysses S. Grant, for speeding (yes in a stage-coach). They wanted to tear up the ticket when they realized who he was, but he thought it was funny, so he demanded they follow through with it.

reply

what about Nixon or Clinton? Also, as I said earlier, Saddam Hussein cooperated and opened the doors to UN inspectors, there was never any weapons of mass destruction so by logic, the pretenses were always false and everyone knew it.
