Hey all,
I have been having a really hard time finding good movies from the 80s that I haven't already seen before. Like all the teen movies I've pretty much seen.. if anyone could recommend some movies from the 80s that are not horror movies that would be great!
Thanks!
No I have not seen that actually. i never thought i would get so many suggestions. haha. its great though. i was just scrolling a list of 80s movies the other day and they all looked terrible..
I think the cover art was bad back then too though
The good news about The Untouchables: it earned Sean Connery his Academy Award.
The bad news about The Untouchables: it was directed by Brian "Heavy Handed" De Palma. Proceed with caution. I have it in my movie library, but it could have been so much better with a more capable director.
I remember seeing The Untouchables when it was still pretty new, but maybe had gone to the art house circuit.
During the famous scene with the stairs, some people started laughing, which got me laughing, and at least half the viewers thought it was amusing, but I seriously don't think that was the intent. When people are laughing during a serious movie, something's gone wrong, hahaha.

Talking about 80s slashers, a few days ago I saw the the extended version of My Bloody Valentine on Blu-ray, which is MUCH better than the theatrical version. I really recommend it to everyone who has only seen the censored version. I think it's one of the better made old school slashers from the early 80s.
Yes, i think its been in talks forever though. Would have to be the original cast though for me, but I'm sure they would do it. And yes Wisdom is a definite must see for anyone who hasn't yet. i haven't seen it in ages though, but I'm sure it holds up. i think he and Demi Moore were dating then too. I had such a crush on him too. haha
There has been talk for years about Goonies 2 with the original cast. Talk about reliving childhood. Don't know if that will ever happen either but would be very cool.
They would be so old though, I wonder how they would work that? I had such a crush on Sean Astin back then.. i thought little Mikey was so cute! I was younger than him at the time keep in mind. hahah
I should have tried to read the thread before replying. Lotta good suggestions, but I slipped mine in closer to the top and didn't realize how many people were chiming in. There must be dozens of really quality films from the 80s (one I thought of turned out to have been made in 1970 -- Sometimes A Great Notion).
If you genuinely haven't seen most of them, wow, you've got a lot of great stuff to check out.
If you look through the filmographies of stars who are in their 50s-60s-70s now, you should find a lot of good films they made in the 1980s. For example:
Susan Sarandon -- Bull Durham, The Witches of Eastwick, The Hunger
Robert De Niro -- Brazil, Once Upon a Time in America, Raging Bull
Catherine De Neuve -- Scene of the Crime (Le lieu du crime), The Last Metro (Le dernier métro)
Al Pacino -- Sea of Love, Scarface
Diane Keaton -- Baby Boom, Reds
Tom Cruise -- Risky Business, Top Gun, Rain Man, Born on the Fourth of July
Meryl Streep -- Out of Africa, Sophie's Choice, The French Lieutenant's Woman
Michael J. Fox -- the Back to the Future trilogy, Bright Lights, Big City, The Secret of My Success
Julie Andrews -- That's Life!, Victor/Victoria
