Anyone else getting nagged by the moderators here?

There is barely anyone here and this mod keeps bugging me every time I have an argument. I'm sorry, isn't this a discussion board? I'm not allowed to speak my mind? He called it "trolling" because some babies reported my posts when they lost an argument. It's unreal.

I want to support this site, but if I can't even have a discussion, what is the point? I just don't know if I'm the only one this is happening to.

reply

No,never been bothered by a mod.

reply

I haven't either and I've talked quite a bit about one of those topics that would be considered taboo by some. Although I try my best to post with respect.

reply

That's a word rarely seen on this site. Respect

reply

Yes. Ms Franklin would be disappointed.

reply

"That's a word rarely seen on *the internet. Respect"

reply

Same with me....never notified by a moderator one way or the other.

reply

No, I never have, and as you can see, it's not because I've been shy about posting :)

I've gotten into several arguments, but I don't name-call or do that type of thing, and still feel free to speak my mind.

reply

This ☝️

reply

Well stated Cat. And I agree.

reply

Its mod2 that is harassing people. I got a warning for bumping my own thread.

reply

[deleted]

Yup, same here. Is he the only mod or is there someone ranked above him that we can complain to?

reply

There is a mod1 and mod2. I have never heard any complaints about mod1. The only person you can complain to is Jim, the owner of this site.

Its ironic though I have reported a thread in the Politics calling for the assassination of Trump. It still hasn't been deleted.

reply

That person is up a creek if they live in the US. Moderation is the least of their worries now! Report them to the Secret Service, if their computer programs haven't found them already.

reply

I am sure they probably got a visit from someone. But ironically it was never deleted on IMDb and it still hasn't been deleted here.

reply

Ugh.
That is pretty gross. It was gross when the neocons said it about Obama and it's gross now.
I don't like Trump at all, but assassination is not the answer. Besides, then we'd get Pence.
:p Out of the frying pan and into the fire. No thanks!
The American way is democracy. The way out of this mess is the 2018 midterm election. Take back the house, and keep 45 on a leash until 2020. And Dems: get your shit together and find a viable candidate next time, please!

reply

With democracy, the people directly make policy, and soon vote to divvy up the treasury amongst themselves. The US is a representative republic for that reason.

reply

How does that support assassination as a political tool?

reply

It doesn't "support" it so much as it can hide it due to the size of the whole operation. Currently, our "Representative Republic" in theory is mostly a pseudo-aristocracy in practice.

reply

okay.
that really has nothing to do with my post, but whatever.

reply

I guess I didn't understand your post.

reply

That thread is all from IMDb and someone reported it to FBI because IMDb were incompatant.

I've reported death threats to the FBI. Imdb red-flagged ME and deleted my posts for complaining!

reply

You mean the Mod Manager?! LOL, I had to say it, sorry.

reply

That is the scary thing about supervisory. The highest can be as corrupt as the lowest. Hopefully, everyone is level headed in their decision making. This also applies in the real world as well!

reply

In politics, most people get into it to "make a difference," but once there they have to "go along to get along." Once they finally climb up the flood chain, they are seduced by the power trip of it all. Anyone high enough to successfully make a bid for President is probably not redeemable by that point. Some are just better at hiding their stripes.

reply

Yes, power = corruption.

reply

Well . . . Power -> corruption.

reply

No, I've never been contacted by a mod. I've had plenty of debates, so that is obviously allowed. Without looking at your past posts, I'm guessing that it's probably about how you argue.
They have written posting guidelines now:
https://moviechat.org/standards
That can help you avoid the types of things that might get mod attention.

reply

Prohibited Content:

2. Content that threatens or advocates for harm on oneself or others, or otherwise violent content

4. Content that incites hatred against, promotes discrimination of, or disparages an individual or group on the basis of their race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, nationality, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, or other characteristic that is associated with systemic discrimination or marginalization

https://moviechat.org/bd0000082/Politics/58aa87661f7fc81e821c1125/White-people-are-the-least-intelligent-and-voted-for-Trump

So why won't these threads be deleted?

reply

I don't know, I am not a mod. I was just trying to help the person I was replying to, on how to avoid mod attention.
Maybe they have contacted the people who posted those but they don't always delete the threads? I don't know what their process is, regarding deleting vs warning vs banning.

reply

I don't know either, just trying to figure out what this site is all about.

reply

Curiously enough, he's stopped responding to me since I posted this.

reply

Thanks for sharing that.

reply

They are old IMDb threads.

reply

No, I haven't... yet lol. 😉

reply

This tells me the usual message board fascists of a certain political party and generation are reporting posts to suppress those they disagree with.

reply

Fascists = conservatives

Socialists/communists (even though I have no idea why those are seen to be alike..totally different) = liberals

reply

The tyrants today are the socialists, hate to break the news. Yes, I'm right.

reply

THANK YOU!!

Someone gets it!

reply

Also to point out . . . fascists are conservatives, but all conservatives aren't fascists. Same with socialists and liberals.

reply

You seem like the very type who reports posts regularly like a message board tattletale.

reply

I regulate whenever I can; however, I have not been doing it by reporting members.

I either a.) boycott having conversations or b.) I make a thread about something that needs to be regulated

reply

When they can't win an argument based on their illogical fallacies, report!! It's so typical.

I only report for scams or disruptive posting. I'm not a baby and can handle my own battles.

reply

It's a DISCUSSION board, not an argument one. If you do everything right and people still report you, you will still not be nagged. I have not been yet (and that does not give you the right to report this post...lol).

There must be a valid reason why you keep being nagged. Not a good sign.

reply

Dude, I'm an adult. I don't bend over for everything like a little kid and say sorry, especially when all I've been doing is having a conversation. Get a spine.

reply

Sometimes you will see how behaving like that little kid, will actually get you far in life. It had taken me some time to figure that out. Then again, if you have made it through most of your life and you have not been having problems and the mod is the only individual you have had a problem with, more power to you.

reply

No problems with the mods here. I think they are doing a good job maintaining the site.

I don't think there is any problem with arguments as long as they are conducted civilly. Attack the issue, but not the person presenting it.

reply

Sometimes, you have no choice but to attack the person presenting it. The more you know about them, the better.

reply

You always have a choice.

reply

In formal debate, attacking the person is known as argument ad hominem (attacking the man [instead of the idea]) and is COMPLETELY invalid, because it does not pass the test of reason. Now you know. You can't do it.

Clearly, this is addressed to thebricks.

reply

If you make a valid point along side the attack, you sure as hell can. If I call someone out on their nonsense, I'm going to give them what for...for believing and trying to use their stupid point to support their dumb statements.

That's the way it should. Stupid people need to be shamed into learning their place, so they can stop speaking up like their opinions and regurgitated ideas matter. Idiocracy has already started and if we continue to validate all these morons opinions just because they have one, this world is going right into the shitter.

reply

I think if you thoroughly debunk the idea so that it is now seen as stupid, you don't have to call the person stupid. They feel it, and others watching know it. The job is done for you, and you keep the moral high ground.

reply

[deleted]

Or "read everyone's opinion on the subject" and copy it without thinking for themselves. Sometimes, the lone voice that everyone derides as being stupid is actually the only one that is right.

reply

You said exactly what I've said. I've disproven this argument thoroughly elsewhere.

If you have an idiot who keeps insisting 2+2 is 6 and you tell him he's an inbred moron because it's 4, that does NOT mean you're wrong.

I'm pretty sure this nonsense about ad hominems means you've lost the argument comes from feel-good female TV daytime shows that bring on self-help douchebags who spout garbage like this. Somewhere along the way, it became some sort of a defacto fact that is repeated by every low-IQ yuppie and suburbanite out there.

reply

Looking at the thread thebricks has had many replies from posters who have not been bothered by moderators but seems only to be interested in responses from posters who share his posting method or those who have also been contacted by moderators.

Long story short-wants back up from fellow posters that he should be allowed to continue with an aggressive posting style.

reply

Seriously, were most of you homeschooled or something? You come off as very sheltered.
