Yeah that is interesting, create some tension and mystery. Still it's no guarantee for success.
I like creepy atmosphere, love mixing it with fantasy and sci-fi. Not a fan of the action packed horror. Can appreciate a slasher but it's not my favorite also modern paranormal (pretty much everything after The Others). I prefer the paranormal ones where the ghosts are barely seen. That said I don't like found footage style.
Love old zombie and monster movies and the old gore movies from Herschell Gordon Lewis because of their crazy concepts.
Depends entirely on what you like.
When I was much younger it was crazy gore, cool characters & nudity! Then when I got older the thing I liked the most was well crafted suspense & I still like that. Now days despite still loving all horror what I like the most is a well crafted horror film on all levels to the point it shakes off the horror stigma all together & the wider film buff audience just don't even think horror they just think "what a great film"
I like horror movies that a bit plausible in real life so that I'm still afraid of it even after the movie ends.
For example, a person trapped in a neverending loop of rooms. The room has a door but only lead to another room and another and another then back to the first room again. He wanders around the rooms for years and never seemed to find an exit. Unknowingly it was all only a dream when he was actually in a coma for years. Creepy.
The movie has to be based off something realistic. Movies like Paranormal Activity and others are based off somewhat true events.
