Don't like the new 'click on the section to open it'.
Preferred it how it was.
What about you?

I think that they should convert each section into its own individual trending bar... then people might actually notice them and post there.
shareOoh. I like that idea, although I'm not sure how well it would work in practice.
To the OP, I think it has pros and cons. Pros: not as far to scroll to the bottom, cleaner appearance. Cons: hard to remember exactly what boards where under what sections (i.e. I wouldn't really consider the Games boards as Trivia; maybe another sub-section?). Maybe if each section has a list of the boards within it?
I do try to post regularly on some of the quieter boards.
It's a little too early to judge fairly, but so far I like not having to scroll so much. It's pretty easy click open and closed on a category to see what's there, but I like your idea of each section showing its boards so long as it doesn't clutter things up too much.
shareI like the idea of a trending for each section but I don't mind scrolling down the page. Having to click each section is an annoyance (unless it can save the setting so I don't have to keep doing it).
shareI imagine that the device being used to access MovieChat makes a difference in how well someone likes a particular feature.
shareI mean just little links in a horizontal list, if that makes sense, not any bulky descriptions of what the links are. Kind of like the links at the bottom of the page with About, Contact, Privacy, Terms, etc.
EDIT: Thanks, Jim! π€
Obviously it would be hard to have picture icons, but they could just trend the topic headers.

I had to go to the home page to see what you, and everyone else, was talking about that I'd missed.
I almost never go to the other general sections, so it doesn't bother me. But I realize a lot of other members do, so yes, the less clicking the better.
I kind of like it. But maybe it should remember which ones you open or collapse. I tried opening some, and then closing the tab and returning to the main MC page, and they were all collapsed again.
By customizing it, it would make it more convenient for many users (although I have no idea if this is a complex task for Jim).
Some users visit many of those subforums and would like to have easy access the moment they load the MC page. Others may rarely visit the subforums and want a cleaner appearance. And then there's the rest who are somewhere in between. Customizing it would also make it function like other sites such as Reddit, Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook - you choose what you want to see or not see.
Now there's a click to show all link (or hide all), which is better. Don't know if customizing it would be time-consuming either, but if not, it would be a great solution for those who often use those sub-boards.
shareNot a hard task. He'd just need to use cookies or session variables to accomplish that. Could be implemented easily.
shareIt should auto-collapse on mobile only.
Isn't it already the case, though? (Can't check right now)
You know, just after mentioning this feature, I noticed it changed again in less than an hour. Very cool to see Jim continue to tinker and experiment to see what works. It's actually even better now because it shows the subforum links (even if you have it collapsed), making each section more descriptive and making quick access easier.
Also, small thing here, but the collapsing button does a cute spin trick when you click on it.
"I'll try spinning." - Anakin Skywalker
I noticed that, too. Jim's doing a great job! π
... But I don't remember that Anakin quote, lol. What was going on in that scene?

Ah, ok. That makes sense. I haven't seen the prequels for a while.
I was trying to picture teenaged broody Anakin saying that and it didn't work out as well. π
Yeah, it's GREAT now!! He's even added a "Show All" button now!!
shareJim has improved in now. He's added a list of the boards that each section contains. And he's added a "Show All" button. Looks great now!!
shareI agree with you
shareI'm good with it either way. I think the most recent changes ("show all" and the summary of which boards are under each section) are the best of both worlds.
