Rate It: Easy Rider(1969)

For me, 6/10. I appreciate its cultural significance and its nuanced, balanced look at hippie culture at the time and how it shows both the good and the bad in it. However, it's also a very uneven film as while there are a lot of really fun segments, there's some really boring ones too. Basically, any time Jack Nicholson's not onscreen, the film is far less interesting as neither Fonda nor Hopper had quite the charisma he had. There's also a lot of strange editing choices in there that I'm not sure as to what the purpose was. All in all, it's a good film that could perhaps have benefitted from a little more Nicholson and a little less avant-garde editing. But even then, towards the end, you do start to care about the two central characters and the last scenes are poignant in delivering its message.

Easy Rider is great. It's a total hippie movie that hits on all the right notes. Peter Fonda, Dennis Hopper, Jack Nicholson, and Karen Black. What a cast! Also showcased that Dennis Hopper could direct an acclaimed movie way back when cinema was starting to push boundaries. 10/10

Fans of this should also be familiar with The Trip (1967) and Psych-Out (1968), both featuring a lot of the same cast and crew.

And let's not forget Woodstock that same year. What a time ! Intuitively, I gave it a 7.5 rating and seeing it appear in the trending bar confirmed that for me.

I was 18 , it was a stunning film. The end hit me on the gut and still effects me the same way . 10/10

I'd rate it much higher. It's a great movie in my opinion.
Some people say that it doesn't hold up well. By today's standards? Is that what that's supposed to mean?
I think it's a perfect slice of life at that time.

Why discusss here? why not on the Easy Rider board?

I've never been drawn to see it...no significant female characters.

I haven't seen it in years, but your rating sounds about right... it's more valuable as a historical document/time capsule than a film. I'd rather watch Five Easy Pieces.
