There was a thread I saw on here about religion. I understand that there should be freedom of speech, but neither politics nor religion should be in here. Now, if there is a movie or t.v. series that has either of these, then it should be okay to write about within those threads.
Am I wrong in thinking that this board is for general discussion of any kind? And isn't that why there is a general board for movies and a general board for tv, because the General Discussion board can be about anything? Just my thoughts,
Yes you are because this website has specific categories for all the things we write about here. The general discussion is not for just anything if the site is called moviechat.org.
Think about it. Just because it is not regulated enough to allow off topic posts, this site needs to draw attention to movies/film/t.v. related topics. If you were a new member to this site, would you want to see the first board you came to to be about anything in the world? No! You would want to draw attention to what the site is about.
In a way, I can see how "General Discussion" could mean anything goes; however, it really is not.
So basically all OT should be strictly in "The Sandbox" catagory? I am quite new and wasn't surprised that there was just about anything goes in this section because under General Discussion it says "Talk about anything here." I see what your saying though because it seems like most of the posts end up here regardless of what they are and the other boards are quiet.
And that is the exact problem we have been having before you arrival. People were leaving this site because there was NO traffic on other boards. In fact, if more people jumped off this discussion board and made their threads in correct categories, it would get them into the habit of increasing more flow to those other sections.
But I get it though. People are lazy and this site is very "General Discussion" board heavy.
On IMDb it was never like this. There was a better distribution of traffic all over the site.
No Daisy you're not wrong. It says "talk about anything here".
Arvin is just about the only person who feels this way but I'm sure there is a Film General board which is what he supposes this one ought to be.
It's his beef but it isn't his board!
If you followed it as it was, it would not make sense. Notice how we are WRITING and not "talking". There was an obvious flaw with how the general discussion was made. It was MEANT to be about anything movie/film related.
That is just pedantry.
Maybe an idea would be to write to Jim or the moderators for clarity.
If you do that and they WRITE to tell us we're all (including you the worst offender) doing it wrong.I will apologise to you myself.
Until that clarity arrives I will carry on as I am and would urge others to do the same.
Edit- I've written myself,hopefully I'll get a response.
Good job Dazed; however, I thought we all had the common sense to do it ourselves. Do we really need someone to tell us to do it? Are we at the age where we look to authority to get things right?
I am sure Jim would look at this as more of a suggestion because it does not affect him. Would it affect this site's traffic? Of course it would and WE know that because we spend more time here than even the owner.
I just didn't think it would make sense for there to be a General Discussion which is only about movies and tv, and then again a General TV board and a General Movie board too... I dunno. But...I'm new here so I should just shut up. lol
Basically, you have to think of it as the poster for the rest of this site. You see that TONS of people come on this board and some of them are new people right? Why are people joining this site? Because they want to find something movie/tv related (or at least that is what I would be hoping.
Having crap in the General Discussion is like water pollution in Rio, before the Olympics and then saying that people here should enjoy it for what it is. We need to do our best to clean it up and put specified posts where they belong.
Someone comes here and all they see is chaos, they are not going to want to be here.
