Welcome. If you don't mind me asking, how did you find out about MovieChat?

Yes, we archived as much as possible from IMDB before they shut down the message boards, so many of the posts are preserved here.

I was googling "IMDB message board alternatives" and also looking for suggestions anyone had on the IMDB facebook page. Don't remember for sure where I saw this one mentioned.

That is basically what it is; although, I am hoping this site is more than IMDb ever was, without being IMDb. Enjoy the fact that some of your conversations were saved! Then again, even if they were not, feel glad that you can start fresh.

I enjoy BOTH the OLD posts and the NEW ones! (I also archived a lot of posts,too, years ago when IMDB boards were in their prime.)

It's funny how we're ingrained to react to certain words....just when I saw it, I sat up straighter and was like, "Oh god, THEY'RE WHAT???"

lol, I've been using that as an online name across many platforms for over 15 years. It is taken from a sign that used to be (still is?) at the Delaware Memorial Bridge toll plaza, which said:

Information
Police

Of course, it conjured up the Thought Police...

looks good so far. i need to explore more. i MISS the Imdb message boards! i can't tell you how many times i look up stuff about a movie especially after seeing it. the only thing (and maybe i haven't discovered it) was the way IMdb had the gross film sales, release date, set locations, etc. all that stuff they still have on their boards.

Yes Jim archived many IMDB posts/threads... and brought them here. I think he is working on bringing more over this weekend, so if you see this site shut down for a bit, dont panic! He announced it on the general board. It was pretty nice of him to give us the heads up. Love it here.
