THANK YOU, but how? [Thread closed]

Not only was this a good idea, but it even has the look of IMDb as well. I loved talking about my favorite movies and tv series.

What I want to know is how you were able to get all the movies on IMDb? That is a whole lot of movies. It said on your blog (the creator of this website) that there were 400+ million. WOW!

reply

We really need an "edit" button and also, to see what the previous post was, to reply to it. Replying to my own post, I have forgotten what I was responding to. O_o

reply

LoL arvin

reply

Haha, yes, an edit button is much needed. I accidentally posted something and it looks foolish. :/

reply

We now have that said button!

reply

OP, I think it was 4 million (not 400 million).

I'm also not sure if everything made it over. Right now, certain shows and movies and actors/directors are missing, but I have no idea if they will show up later after another update, or they were not saved at all. Prior to a recent update a day ago, there was only the General Board on the front page. No Film General, TV Talk, TV Trivia, Movie Awards. Now, they are all there. So maybe Jim has it all saved up somewhere, but it takes time to update.

I was looking at other things and it really is like a coin toss sometimes. All of the threads on Steven Spielberg's page are there, but not George Lucas. Newer movies are also random: no Lego Batman, but yes to Fifty Shades Darker and The Great Wall (IMDB threads for those movies were saved).

However, one thing I like is that it seems many of the classic films are there and accounted for. Maybe Jim made that a priority, since it would be a shame to lose so many valuable contributions for these classics. Newer films have an easier time building up conversations, but it's harder for "Some Like it Hot" and "Now, Voyager" to rebuild their respective communities.

reply

I made a recent thread asking for email notifications for replies or an email to be put in our profiles, so this could happen.

Right now, how are people finding out who has replied to them?

reply

reply

Yeah, haha, old school.

Even though not convenient, I guess it is great to experience what IMDb was like before these notifications came about. Might as well enjoy them until the notification thing is up and running.

True, but then if he has a program to create like pages for movies and t.v. series, he could always get people to add those movies and shows. Think about it. He could even have a link to where people submit t.v. shows and movies that are not on here and once approved by him, they could start being a part of this website. This is how IMDb works. Obviously for a movie or show to be made, someone has to create the page for it (guessing the producer). Only when IMDb approves it, it becomes public and that is how we all see it, with cast and crew.

It would not be hard to recreate if we had a template for the image of the movie or show, sections for release date, box office revenue (something I would love to see), and any other details. Jim probably cannot do it by himself because there are just too many and like you said, whatever "he had scraped". This is where the "community" aspect comes in. I am sure we could all get the movies/tv shows we want to see and write about on here and it may take half the time.

reply

Not only this, many posts from imdb were transferred here. I can see some of my old comments i made on imdb here!

reply

IMDB have really shot themselves in the foot, I'll only really go there for the trivia section now.

reply

-

reply

That was all I really went there for as well. That and because I like to check my starmeter from time to time. I do work on production crew and acting work.

Message boards were HUGE!
Trivia was probably the next best feature.
Locations of where the movie/show was shot was not bad to know either.

This was a while ago! Wow. Look at how far Moviechat.org has come!

Amen Arvin, AMEN!!!!

https://moviechat.org/general/General-Discussion/5910701c5c874d00119f171f/Life

Never received an input from you on my other thread.

reply

Yeah I saw that thread. It just wasn't for me I guess. You know how it us. Some subjects grab your attention more than others. 😕

reply

Relating to your four month thread, it was definitely a good idea.

reply

Not every movie is here😉

reply

Later did I learn that statement to be true.

reply

Just out of curiosity, what movies did you find that were not here?

reply

The Tomb Raider movie boards.

reply

Do you mean the 2 movies with Angelina Jolie?

reply

No,April, i mean about Tomb Raider (2018) movie boards.Honestly, the Jolie version of TR are a disgrace to the games. It's like i watch a mix between mission impossible and james bond movies😉

reply

James Bond is good. Mission Impossible, I will have to watch and get back to you.

reply

Well, arvin,i recomend ( sorry,my english it's a little rusty) to watch both TR movies, then tell me if those two aren't similar with james bond and MI movies

reply

Most video game type movies now are all about action and not about plot. There was one movie that came out recently, forgot the name, and people said it was horrible.

reply

Yes,one example is the final chapter.I never seen so much hate for a movie as for this one...anyway i hope this new TR movie(this is the remake after the 2013 video game) will be good as the game is

reply

It's not hope, it is what the writers think will sell. Action is a better way to make $ than just having a plot. Having no plot actually costs less $ too.

reply

You're right, but still it will be fun ( for me,as a fan of the games)to.compare the movie with the game😉

reply

Isn't a movie, based on a videogame, just a video game without you being the player?

reply

You.didn't ever played any TR game before? Anyway it's like a movie, but you controll the character😉

reply

The only game I have played, that comes remotely close to TR, is Halo. I usually stuck with gaming systems that had Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, and sports games.

reply

The simples ones,if you even want a challenge, the irecomend you the Tr games

reply

What game system is TR on out of curiosity?

reply

You mean on what sistem is availeble?
Well,TR(2013) and rise of the tomb raider were released on xbx one,ps4 and pc,including the old ones. For rise of the tomb raider, you need a new video board( at least 2 gb RAM).😉

reply

Is it a PC game?

reply

No,i just told you,it's available on consoles too,but rise of the tomb raider was made for the new consoles, because it has better graphics, then the others

reply

So what console is it available on?

reply

Xbox one,ps4 and ps4pro.TR(2013)it's available on ps3,ps4,xbox one and pc

reply

See, I always stayed with Nintendo and Sega.

Do you know Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Smash Brothers?

reply

No,when i was younger i.played on the terminator consoles Mario.I become a gamer only one year ago when i bought a ps3console My first game on ps3 was resident evil6

reply

What is a terminator console? Did you mean you played, Terminator, the game?

reply

You never heard about this console? It had two joysticks,a gun and worked with(how to say) floppy disks😉

reply

That sounds like something ancient.

reply

1996,to be exact

reply

Okay, so it was after I was born; however, I still have not heard about it. I remember when I had a Nintendo. It had a huge cartridge.

reply

It was similar to Nintendo,i think it was available on in eastern-europe,that's why you never heard of it.

reply

Oh, one of those "exclusive" game consoles. That would make sense now.

reply

I had to come back to this post.

What made you a gamer? I actually thought you were a veteran gamer, from the way you typed about TR. I was never an avid game; however, I do know that video games definitely are an addiction (I mean that in a good way.)

reply

Well,i am a fan of resident evil since 2010,i wanted to play the old RE games on ps2,but never had the chance.I bought a ps3 console from a friend, the first game was resident evil 6.In time he noticed that i liked to solve puzzles and recommend me the TR games, that's how i "fall in love" with Lara Croft.😉

reply

And about addiction,not in my case,i'm a( how to say )a farm boy,so i don't play all day,only when i have some time off,after i work on the field.😉

reply

There's nothing better than a hard-working guy!!!!

reply

Thank you😉

reply

Anytime 😊

reply

Wow, farming is tough work.

reply

Yes,it is,but it's my way of life,it's hard but i love it😉

reply

What do you do on a farm? In movies, the stereotype is usually plowing, hoeing, milking the cattle, getting eggs from the hens, etc.

Is this true?

reply

It's hard to explain in english, but i will try to explain to you.Ok,in the most part it's true, on the other hand it's not that simple as in the movies. In summer days you,as a farmer, when it isn't raining are concerned to how you'll feed your family and animals during winter.Sometimes no matter what you'll do to increase the production of your land, the production is lower then you expect to be,if so you have to buy food from the market that hasn't the same quality as from your on field,I don't know if you know the difference between a vegetable from your garden and one from the market. It's so much to tell...but in conclusion,it's hard but it's worth it.

The extraordinary is in what we do,not who we are.

reply

And what is different?

reply

Read my post,then you'll know it😉

reply

Oh I see and actually I have no idea what the difference is. Since I was mostly raised on food from the market, I do not really have too much insight on food grown in a garden.

reply

It's a shame that you never taste one product from the garden. If you ever had the chance try it,trust me,you'll know the difference.

reply

So with the produce that you make on your farm, do you actually sell that to markets?

reply

Yes,if you have a lot of land to cultivate large quantities of products, you can sell them at the market, but it's not that simple how it seems...how to explain...you as a small farmer with ,i don't know, two cows, some chickens, other animals around your house, sometimes to make a.fewore money to sustein yourself you can go to the market and sell some products, but you have to be carefuul at what price do you sell it.If you sell with a higher price,no one will buy it,if you'll sell with lower price, then it's difficult to sustain yourself

reply

Yeah, I see what you mean. It really does make sense then. But hey, you did say you were helping people outside of work and by being a farmer, you are helping people with your job. Food is the most essential thing to have and only few can help feed the masses.

In the U.S., it seems like they got around this and it has been told that farmers here are not paid very well because they bypass it by selling genetically engineered products. This, in turn, outcompetes farmers and they are out of jobs. I sometimes wish that it could be more like what it is in Romania. Then again, there are some local "farmer's markets" as they call them. At those markets, it is those actual farmer's produce that is sold, not genetic modification!

reply

Well,in romania,my conntry, the things aren't so simple how it seems.I don't know what you heard or read about the farmers Maybe you saw the "happy" cases, but in the poor and remote zones of the country, the things are different.

reply

Yes, it is actually better. Sometimes things need to stay as they were. It is great that people can still have jobs without businesses coming in and limiting them for profit.

reply

Well, actually, farmers should be the richest in the world; however, somehow they made it so that way they were the poorest.

Think about it. People need food right? It is almost as essential as water. If farmers are the ones that provide it, then farmers are always in demand.

reply

Yes,but i don't know how it's the life of a farmer in us,i saw a documentary on nat geo about the farmers in california state that are struggling with the lack of water. In the poorest regions of our country, especially in north-east,those who want to sell their products in the market, also have to pay ( how to say) a taxe for the space in what you put your products,if you don't pay that taxe, you can't sell.

reply

Oh that is horrible! You have to pay a tax too?

So you basically have to rent room on the shelves of the market?

reply

Yes,basically you have to.

reply

How long do you have to rent it out for?

reply

Depends how much product you have to sell. You can rent it per day or for the entire year.

reply

But then they give you a discount, if you rent it out for a year right?

reply

No,arvin,it doesn't work that way If you don't pay that tax,you can't sell your products on the market.

reply

No, I meant. Let's say per day it is like 10 Euros . There are 365 days in a year. Would they expect you to pay 365x that or would they give you like a yearly discount. Maybe 3285 Euros for the entire year?

reply

Actually is lower then 10€,if you take in considerration the currrency exhange,it's better to buy a car with that money.I think the tax it's around 1€ per day.

reply

So you would have to pay 365 pounds in order to rent for a year?

reply

Something like that.Another factor is how capable the mayor is to manage his city. For example i went for six months period in the western part of the country at work and i must say,it's much different then my home town.

reply

So the mayor is in charge of how frequently you get to work?

That is kind of scary!

reply

No... you get it wrong about this. There are some firms that seek persons to work in other domains. They go to each town and present you the work offers,if you like what they offer you, then you are hired for a small period of time.

reply

Well, I guess you're not a short talking person after all!! 😄😉

reply

In general,i am,only in rare ocasions i am a communicative person,but not so often.😉

reply

Why are threads being closed?

reply

Only this thread is closed...i don't know,maybe isn't active,no discussions here😉

reply

Just like everywhere else....

reply

I finally found another thing needed to be changed on this site, or rather added; when the responses get so thinned out, it is hard to see what post this was a response to. It would be far better if there were automatic quotes to posts responded to. So when you are responding, it shows the previous post you are replying to.

reply

Well, imdforums has this option,it's annoying ,but i'm ok with it😉

reply

Yup. Jim tried working on the thinness aspect of it but with no success yet. Anyway, I was replying to this:

Oh that is horrible! You have to pay a tax too?

So you basically have to rent room on the shelves of the market?

So my reply was "Just like everywhere else."

reply

And i thought it was only in Romania this practice😉

reply

No, of course not! All vendors have to pay for space. Even in grocery stores, the food companies pay to have their products on the shelves. 😉

reply

Thank you for confirmation😉

reply

😉😉😉😉

reply

Disregard the previous post. For some reason, I never received a notification from your post that had the answer.

reply

How does one go about getting a new video board on a console? Are there consoles that can be fitted with this "video board"?

reply

You need need a video board for pc,now if you want to play ROFTR on console, you.need an xbox one or ps4,By the way what video board has yourPC?

reply

I have no idea. I am not very computer tech savy.

reply

Well, the advantage to have a pc is you can download them for free from the internet, you can check if your computer can run rise of the tomb raider😉

reply

The downside is the speed, unless you have a good computer. I notice that, with a console, the speed is never an issue. Does your game ever lag?

reply

You can have an old computer, what matters is the video.board, even with a gtx750,you can run rise.of the tomb raider at low graphics and no i don't have any lag,not yet, anyway😉

reply

Oh, now I remember the movie name, Assassin's Creed.

reply

You just compair Lara with Alistair...you never played Tr, do you?

reply

I just know the name of this other video game movie.

reply

I saw it too,the assasin's creed movie, another mistake for hollywood.

reply

What was so bad about it?

reply

Well, how to explain...it's the same case with the
TR games and movies ,if you played the games, then you recognize.the differences😉

reply

So it was not even similar to the games. They just went off on a tangent?

reply

They took the character's name, the Anymous ,from the game, add (as usuall )special effects and in the end name it Assasin's Creed. Those who ever played this games will recognize the difference between the game and the movie.I don't sy this with hate, but is the truth.

reply

Well, I guess they were more for the money than actually producing something with quality.

reply
