Priest and parishoner storyline

Can anyone here help me remember a soap opera that my mom and I watched when I was a teen in the 1970s? It had a story about a young Catholic woman who fell deeply in love with her priest, and he with her. I think he may have eventually left the priesthood to marry her, but I just barely remember the details. About all I can remember is that the actress playing the parishoner had dark hair. And why all this popped into my head, I don't even know--my husband and I were talking about soaps we recalled from years past, and I began trying to remember that one.

On Love is a Many Splendored Thing there was a character who left a convent. Probably not what you're thinking of, but may help job the memory.

I believe your soap was The Secret Storm. That storyline gave it a great ratings boost before the network axe struck. If you look up The Secret Storm on google you can find synopsis of storylines -- I believe the priest storyline was close to the end of its run, from 1954 to the mid-70's. Roy Winsor was the producer and Jada Rowland, whom you may remember from The Doctors, played Amy Ames almost from the beginning with occasional replacements ... she literally grew up on the show as Peter Ames' youngest daughter.

Oh-my-gosh, I think you're right about "The Secret Storm", grantch.

Stephanie Braxton played the woman who fell for the priest and I think her guilt was compounded when her husband died in a car accident. I can picture the actor who played the priest but can't think of his name. I think he had a crooked brother played by Gary Sandy. Maybe!

hmmm Another plot featuring a parishoner who falls for a priest happens on "Soap" - when Jessica's adopted daughter, Corinne (Diana Canova), courts Father Tim Flotsky (Sal Viscuso), with his mother (Doris Roberts) placing a curse upon them when the two eventually marry - causing them to bear a child who is possessed.

Mellow Salutations!

Actor was David Gale playing Father Mark Reddin. After Secret Storm he went on to play Beau Richardson on Edge of Night who blackmailed Nancy Karr into pretending to be having an affair and leave Mike, then on Search for Tomorrow he was the evil senior Sentell. From priest to evildoer in just a decade! LOL.

Of course! D'oh! Thank you so much. I've been picturing his curly hair and piercing eyes. David Gale.

I wish I could find a photo of one of the "Amy" actresses, grantch--but I think you must be right--and it probably was Jada Rowland (same as this artist I find online, I wonder?). Thanks to you and all for giving me a place to start to find out a bit more!

YouTube has a couple of episodes from the '50's when it focused on the efforts of Aunt Pauline to woo Peter. Haila Stoddard as Peter's sister-in-law was as much fun to watch as on Another World, the original Aunt Liz (who became Mrs. Roper on Three's Company) was. Peter was a widower, Pauline his sister-in-law and boy did she go after him, at one time planning to gain custody of his children: Amy, Jerry and Susan. In the early '60's Amy fell for Kip Rysdale, son of Peter's mortal enemy and Pauline, after 7 years realizing she couldn't bed Peter married Kip's father Arthur. Pretty heady stuff considering the censorship the TV networks exercised 50 years ago! It was a nifty show back in the 15-minute 4:15 p.m. days. And note the storylines were usually about mature adults, not kids, and were quite interesting for not only the target audience but to children coming home after school. Much like the actress who plays Robin on GH, Jada Rowland really did grow up on Secret Storm (except that several times she was replaced by another actress for a few weeks or a couple of months. I'm sure she's still alive and would be happy to hear from a fan if you can find her. She must be in her late '50's or early '60's now. And, as I said, she played a lead on The Doctors for a long time. (I may be wrong but I think she was Alec Baldwin's step-mom.)
