Is the Milky Way Really the 6th Largest Galaxy Known?
After learning about IC 1101 the largest galaxy known Universe which has an incredible 100 trillion stars. I was curious how many other galaxies there are like that, that have perhaps nearly that many stars. By looking at a top 10 list the galaxy in second place doesn't even come close. It has 15 trillion stars and our milky way which has only a few hundred billion is at 6th spot. I find it hard to believe that we're even close to 6th spot given there is at least 100 billion galaxies in the known Universe. The Hubble Deep Field reaches 13.2 billion light years and surely there are billions of galaxies in that field, there must be many galaxies out there like IC 1101 that haven't been accounted for but could be and also probably many many more that are bigger than our own Milky Way in that field?
