Ade Edmondson/Rik Mayall appreciation thread

I love these two together. I've seen the entire of Bottom including the live shows and Guest House Paradiso. The Young Ones was lunacy at its best. I've even seen Filthy Rich & Catflap which was okay. Bottom was their best though.

I respect Ade's decision of not returning to comedy. COME BACK YOU BASTARD!!!

I love Bottom, though I didn't think the film was that great.. It's a shame they cancelled plans for that new Bottom series.

How can I go forward when I don't know which way I'm facing?

Apparently it was Ade that called it off because he felt he was too old to be cracking those sorts of jokes. I respect his decision but come on, lots of "comedians" crack those same sorts of jokes and then just don't become funny anymore. These two stayed together through Young Ones, Filthy Rich & Catflap and Bottom and not once did I watch a cringe worthy moment.

They were brilliant as The Dangerous Brothers on a show called Saturday Live (later Friday Night Live). Much the same sort of smutty slapstick that went into Bottom and such.

I think they are great, my comedy heroes.

I am also sad that the new series of Bottom was cancelled. I think it was Ade who walked away rather than Rik. From the bits I can put together from various interviews and comments over the last few years I think Ade thought Rik was too difficult to work with since his quad bike accident. Ade also seemed to want to move away from their typcial slapstick kind of humour and get into more serious acting and broadcasting.

Obviously it is his choice but I think he has turned his back on a big audience who love him in a certain kind of role. It's just my opinion, but there are many people out there who can present a programme, but it takes a 'subtle blend of pyschology and extreme violence' to pull off an attack with a rubber frying pan!

As I said before, Ade was actually the one to call it off because he felt he was too old to crack those sorts of jokes. The problem is, even though I can see where he's coming from, I still want the Bottom show to happen. Then again he is in his 60's now. Rik hasn't done much since Bottom ended either.

He was not holding the frying pan!
