bottom(one of my alltime fave shows ever i adore the live shows even the later ones too)
filthy rich and flapjack
young ones
the cafe(though i didnt laugh but i was highly entertained)
royle family(im in the minority who loves the specials and am looking forward to the new one)
red dwarf
fawlty towers
blackbooks, how the *beep* did i forget to add that to the list

i started on the comic strip but weirdly i didnt enjoy it much. the first episode: five go mad was like huh. i rewatched it and i noticed how smart it actually was they played the parts so well and it has one of my fave moments ever when the guy says "well i better go and get knicked than"

i attempted to watch the it crowd and it stunk

about Jrdmln:im not sure whether the kid is mentally unstable or just loves to troll.

If you liked the Royle Family then you'll love Early Doors

Early Doors is brilliant. I loved The Royle Family but thought Early Doors was far better. Favourite characters? Ken the landlord, and Phil 'n Nigel the coppers.

I recommend you 'The League of Gentlemen' -

I'm going to stick my neck out and say, with the exception of Fawlty Towers and maybe Blackadder, nothing in your list comes close. Exceptional, dark, bizarre, roll around on the floor hilarious all coupled with first-class acting and first-class writing. Great characters, running stories and a fine build-up to the end in the second series.

There is a third series, but it pretty much takes its own line with stand alone episodes concentrating on individual characters, some old some new. Still up there but not as in your face daft as the original two.

You can get the three in a boxset for £12.98 on Amazon.co.uk. That's like someone selling you a coupla years old Aston Martin for ten grand...daylight robbery !

On top of that 'Still Game', by BBC Scotland is excellent. A sitcom consisting of two widowers - Jack and Victor - and all the nonsense they get up to in and around Craiglang, a fictitious area of Glasgow. This, my friend, is a very funny TV series. I'm sure you would appreciate it. I think YouTube would help you get an idea of just how good it is.

Although just as funny, but maybe a bit harder to understand for non-Scots, is Rab C Nesbitt. In this we follow scum-philosopher(he's the archetypal unemployed waster/alcoholic) Rab as he wastes away his days getting rat-arsed(drunk), trudging the streets of Glasgow and remarking on the day-to-day lives of all around him and life in general. A true gem and a personnel favourite of mine. This is one of the best Scottish comedies of all time and I guess that makes it one of the best of British too.

I'm not a Scot and I find Rab quite easy to understand. I love Rab - I find the show not just full of (genuinely) funny lines - but also pathos. It can be quite sad at times. Rab is a genuine genius and philosopher - he also has a heart of gold.

Phoenix Nights is brilliant. I love Peter Kay's TV work more than his stand up, he hardly seems to change his material, it's all bullseye and garlic bread.

I grew up watching repeats of old shows coz of my Dad so stuff like Only Fools and Horses, Porridge, Rising Damp, Open All Hours. He did have Love Thy Neighbour on DVD but it was far too 70's for me, funny but sometime boring and not to mention the not too funny racism. Steptoe and Son is funny too, The US made their own version called Sanford and Son which I hear is as much of an institution as Steptoe is over here.
