Nice work.. You sure are patient! solid rendering. you seem to be stuck in realism though! Remember you are not a photographer.
sharehaha I know. I really Love realism though and I value it as the style of true Artists. In my own opinion of course. I'm not here to tell someone they're not a Artist, there are many forms of Art. I studied animation for a while and drew cartoons but it felt too simple. I'm a perfectionist.
Since I was a kid I grew up studying Artist like Norman Rockwell, Émile Friant and Eugene de Blaas. Especially Rockwell!
Thank you for viewing my work.
"Let them eat cake."
they strongly discourage it at uni
shareI wonder why?
"Let them eat cake."
because it's meaningless I think. Art is about technique but fundamentally its about emotion and ideas. Messed up my 1st semester just doing technique. It's insane lol
you have an amazing talent but personally I find the tightness a bit dull. You have some really cool pics you have copied from but the forced realism takes away from it. Loosen them up a bit and you're work would be incredible.
Look at Luc Tuyman and Elizabeth Peyton they add another dimension. Even Close's work (he was the god of realism imo) work is better now than before his stroke
Meaningless?? Gosh that hurts haha. No I don't believe that. If someone were to say that Art is about technique, emotion and ideas well then... anyone can be a Artist and Art is basically whatever you say it is. That's lunacy!
Jackson Pollock is not a Artist to me, and in my own opinion of course. His splatters of paint is not technique, it's a mess. You'll never hear me call that Art, because you can just as easy create that with a paintball gun while randomly shooting the wall. That's not control an animal can do that.
It's hard to believe that realism is discouraged and that type of Artist can only be thought of as an illustrator. Especially when realism takes a higher knowledge of control, shapes, movement, color, emotion, skill, size and of perspective. While Non-Objective dudes are given more skillful credit. THAT is discouraging.
Maybe I'm not a Artist in the eyes of a University. haha what do they know!

Well yes, anyone can be an artist, what makes a good artist however is an interesting thing. I think ideas and new and exciting techniques ride over technically "good" artists any day.
You may not like Pollock, but I feel that's due to you not really understanding it. It may look like there is no control in his work....There is, and it is incredible to look at. The Guggenheim in Venice has some of his most prolific works and to see them up close is amazing. They show so much passion and anger in them. There's a very good book called why your 5 year old could not have done that, it is a really good way of learning about the art you don't like. Sure, there is a load of rubbish out there but its artists who jump out of the box who make a name for themselves and stick out in galleries.
The Saatchi is excellent, changes regularly and exhibits some great work.
Personally, my work was realism but I could see how boring and stiff it was, and while that is good for books and graphics, it is so dull in a gallery. Loosening things up just makes things so much more interesting.
Uni helps you se that and makes you look at different techniques, use different materials etc. Took me a while but I realised that.
As I said you have an amazing talent, but loosening it up would get your work into galleries.
At the end of the day it's about exploration of yourself. Not how well you can draw. The other poster said it better lol.
It's often said that art = concept + craft. In my opinion, you have the craft but not the concept. What you do is well done, but it doesn't seem to have anything to say.
So: what do you want to say with your art?
