It is annoying when you know that if the races were reversed, you'd get more media coverage and the coverage we're seeing race would be mentioned often in the headline. The others may just quote a family member who believes it to be racially motivated. Maybe they'd mention in passing that the cyclist is black. They'd show images of protesters holding BLM signs. Ben Crump would be out. Activists and groups like the NAACP would be there standing with the family. Even with no evidence race was a factor.
With this incident it's the opposite. No mention of race but get a family member out there to state race had nothing to do with it and it was just random. How does she know it was random? The label anyone speaking about it online as racist for suggesting a racial motive potentially or critiques the media on their coverage.
Taylor Probst, alluding to how her father’s death has sparked a social media furor — some of which has boiled over into attacks on the Las Vegas Review-Journal over its coverage of the crime and some of which has been racist — called for cooler heads to prevail.
“We as a family in no way feel that Andy’s murder was based on race or profession,” Taylor Probst said. “It was a random act of violence. We ask you to not politicize or use Andy’s murder to fuel political agendas or to create cultural wars.”
