I love noticing patterns. Why are the lefty sites always having issues with illicit material involving children?? 🤔🤔🤔
Threads never had a chance, its userbase numbers were BS as the messenger is built into IG.
Meanwhile, over on "X"... Elon is trying to turn Twitter into a one-stop shopping App like they have in China, so buyer beware.
Social Media is cancer, imo, and needs to die. My only hope in these new digital wars: is not the migration of users from one platform to another...it's the mass cancellation of accounts.

Mastadon doesn't have a global administrator, so it's up to each server administrator to decide what's allowed. Just like Usenet, which is no longer relevant.
In any case, Twitter is 3.9 rating and Threads is 3.2 rating so that's that. Zucky is finding it hard to compete it seems. Easier just to buy companies out through foreign takeover.
We're too far down the social media hole for any real, major platform changes. The great migration from MySpace to Facebook was a one-time phenomena. It's not going to happen again...they put too much effort into making FB, Twitter(X), and sadly TikTok the main platforms. That's not going to change anytime soon.
Overnight, almost every media outlet would need to start quoting Threads, and not Tweets...not happening.
Twitter(X)'s only real competition is Gab.

I actually heard about how this whole migration thing got started, thanks to Clownfish TV.
According to Kneon and Geeky Sparkles, there have always been hard-left extremists online. The story goes that the Nutties first started on LiveJournal. No doubt they turned that place into their own personal left-wing echo chamber and drove out anyone who refused to go along with their twisted groupthink.
Then when MySpace came out, they migrated over there, due to better software features than LiveJournal, leaving an almost empty, digital "wasteland" behind. Some people still use it, of course, but it is not as popular as later blog websites have become.
Anyway, then, Tumblr came out, and the Nutties migrated over there, leaving MySpace behind as another "digital wasteland," which, I think, has also fallen into digital disrepair and probably doesn't even exist anymore. I'll have to look it up. Like their previous haunts, the Nutties made Tumblr toxic and unbearable to anyone who wasn't like them.
And then Facebook and Twitter came out, and those soon became populated by the Toxic Nutties, who migrated off of Tumblr and onto those two social media sites.
The pattern is always the same. Geeky said that Twitter was fine for like...5 minutes before the Nutties moved in and ruined it for everyone. Even worse, their numbers had gone up and they got political clout, in addition to getting the power to destroy or "cancel" anyone they didn't like if they couldn't drive them out first.
It was interesting seeing their heads explode when Elon Musk took over and took away their banning hammer. Then they started treating him exactly the way they have been treating Trump.
I still find it funny that the Nutties' attempts to find a new digital swamp to slither into have come to nothing >:)
It was happening on IMBD too! Look at any board here that has posts going back before 2016... Post after post of calling out every movie under then as some kind of ista-phobic object.
I think people caught on, and coupled with digital migration fatigue, and messenger fatigue...that game is done.
I had a co worker going on and on about Elon Musk, so I asked her... "Did you hate Elon Musk 2 years ago, when he was only the Space/Tesla guy?" She stumbled over herself for 5 minutes trying to explain away anything other than "White African Twitter Man Bad" ...just like Trump lol!

I always find it interesting when they can't defend themselves. I remember when Elon Musk was a HUGELY popular guy in the upper circles of society. He even had cameos in some movies, and people were quoting him online. (I play a game called "Surviving Mars" that uses a few quotes from him). Now he's a pariah for taking the elites' favorite clubhouse and banning hammer away, and while it's fun to watch the drama, I'm deeply troubled by their cult-like behavior towards him.
On the one hand, I'm unhappy IMDB got rid of their message boards, and I can sorta see why they didn't like having to deal with flame wars on there, but it wasn't fair to the people that just wanted to talk about their favorite movies. Makes me glad someone made this site afterwards, whoever it was.
Myspace and livejournal were not left wing echo chambers. In fact back then people didn't have politics on their minds like they do now. People were more mature. Those sites were used to build your profile and share pics/blogs. It was easy to make friends because people weren't so egotistical. So it was common to have friends lists with people from all walks. People didn't define themselves or let their thought process be lead by politics. There were extremes on both sides but they were the exception not the rule.
As to what brought down myspace? The owners changed the layout, got rid of customization features that made it a fun open ended site that allowed the free flow of communication. The short and narrow sighted people in charge thought it better to take away features and turn it into a music platform.
As for livejournal it teetered out, gave way to other sites. It was just a place of people... journaling.
Tumblr has turned into a cesspool/attractor for "woke", that is true. To say other social media sites were like that or that's why people stopped using them is revisionist hyperbole. Channels like clownfish like to gossip about "woke" culture and would have nothing to offer if not.
This bizarre focus on seeing the "woke" in everything is as weird as the "woke" looking for offense and oppression in everything. Jung would say humanity is possessed and in love with its shadow. What would the left/right do without their favorite scapegoats to sneer down at/project that shadow on to and shadowbox with? Things are only gonna get worse as people become more galvanized in tribalism.
Twitter most represents this devolved egotism with short, shallow, sensationalist, blurbs. Far from myspace where people made long blogs with pics/music/custom code. All social media is entraining but modern social media is trash. Political obsession is a symptom of the devolution/limiting of human consciousness.
You wouldn't happen to be a certain movie producer who was famous for his low-brow humor that bullied Clownfish TV, would you? Because if you are, we're still laughing at you for how badly you fucked up with that Teela show on Netflix. If you aren't, I still pity you.
And the fact that you refuse to admit how cruel and nasty social media has been towards conservative Republicans shows you're just stupid enough to let recent history go down the memory hole. Now be a good little drone and go back to social media where you belong.
Elon Musk says he'll defend users of X, formerly Twitter, facing heat from employers over posts or likes. Elon Musk has offered to fund the legal bills of any users of his social network, X, who've been discriminated against by their employer because of their actions on the platform.
