What it takes to be an American politician

Celebrity or rich.

I'd add for most - a lack of morals and lust for money.

If anyone knows, let me know the name of one politician who took office and tied their salary to the minimum wage and declined a pension.

Imagine having a job that’s so easy, you choose to “work” into your 90s rather than retiring by 60 like every normal person strives they can do.

There are dozens of career politicians in DC in their 80s doing this including our pantshitter in chief.

Either with money and name recognition, in which case you likely just have to be competent enough to not shoot yourself in the foot on the campaign trail, or you can run a grass roots campaign, which requires you to be far smarter and charismatic than your opponent and genuinely connect with people.

Also, depending on where you are running, you may need to appropriate (R) or (D) next to your name. The D will get you more voters, but the R typically slants the game in your favor.
