I'm pretty sure their belief is that exposure to LGBT lifestyles and understandings of them will lead to greater acceptance. This is something the 'left' desperately want as much of their political stances are about pro-diversity and anti-discrimination.

They're trying to make the next generation pro-LGBT and encourage the LGBT members of said next generation to 'come out' early and to create a social enviorment that is welcoming of them.

By teaching children about LGBT lifestyles and telling them it's a-okay, they hope to curb 'homophobia', 'transphobia' etc, etc.

People on the 'left' consider it something of their duty to try encourage acceptance of minority or marginalized groups.
