Tennessee school board votes to ban anti-Nazi graphic novel MAUS from school libraries

That took no time. I knew from the beginning that the whole CRT thing was a red herring for them to do stuff like this.

TEXT:

On Wednesday, the Tennessee Holler reported that a school board in eastern Tennessee has voted 10-0 to ban "Maus," an award-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust, from school libraries.

"The Mcminn County School board just voted to ban the Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel 'MAUS' by Art Spiegelman from all of its schools, citing the inclusion of words like 'God Damn' and 'naked pictures' (illustrations) of women," reported Justin Kanew. "There is no video available of the meeting, but here are the MINUTES in their entirety."

According to the report, the school denies that the subject matter of the Holocaust played any role in their decision to remove the book.

This comes amid widespread efforts by GOP politicians and right-wing activists around the country to purge certain topics from school shelves, using the cover that books are inappropriate to remove discussions of race and sexual identity. In some cases, these efforts are triggering backlash from students themselves, including high schoolers who spoke against a proposed book ban measure in Granbury, Texas.

Tennessee has been a hotbed of this activism, spurred in part by a group called "Moms for Liberty." They have pushed removal of books on Martin Luther King as divisive, books on Galileo as unfair to Christianity, and even a picture book on seahorses for supposedly being too sexual.

If this is true then I am against this. Only saw the cover and it looks like the mouse are Jews? Ugh! Do the right politicians not know what CRT IS that everyone is referring to (excluding the lefts excuse that it isn't being taught in schools)? They need to just follow Libs of TikTok to get the answers or the mama bears for kids they put on Fox. Get it right people.

I don't want taxpayer funds used to purchase/teach blasted COMIC BOOKS for schools. The guy who wrote this isn't even a college graduate or an educator. He worked for Topps and illustrated wacky packages trading cards. These kids should be reading real books that prepare them for the real world. This Maus comic appears to be somewhat of an autobiography since the author puts his personal story in there as well. Keep this drivel out of the classroom and out of the library!

I don't mind some comic books at public libraries but they should have some educational/historical value.

MAUS had enough historical & artistic value to win a Pulitzer, for one thing. You might try reading it before dismissing it.

Awards don't mean much to me. Andrew Cuomo was awarded a Grammy for telling lies to the camera but they at least stripped him of it later. Obama won a Nobel Prize for spewing BS about peace. Moonlight won the best picture Oscar and it was horrible. La La Land was the only film deserving of best picture and I suffered through Moonlight, Hidden Figures, Arrival and Manchester by the Sea.

Comic books don't belong in the classroom or in school libraries. I read a couple Elie Wiesel books about the holocaust and I think those are appropriate for school libraries and study plans.
