The worst thing this website could have done is introduce a political forum...

This website should be about movies, not politics... now whenever I go to a celebrity's page or a movie's page, it is swamped with republican talking points that have nothing to do with filmmaking at hand. God, this website has fallen from grace, which once showed promise...

reply

I agree.

I’m glad the political forum is here because we can all express how we really feel and not have to fear any backlash from it.

reply

That seems… rather impervious of you. The politics board is built on a framework of backlash and people going for each other’s jugulars when they spot someone with a different persuasion. Watch me say “I love Trump” or “I love Biden” and see if there’s not people jumping on me with personal attacks like Oprah on a baked ham.

Although you might be on to something if you mean people can express opinions freely here that they are too chicken shit to in their day-to-days. It’s something of a circle jerk for the malcontents at times.

reply

Yes we can express opinions freely here without fear of any repercussions.

reply

How sad.

reply

What's with Oprah on a baked ham? Seems unnecessary and offensive, but if that's how you roll and your sense of humor, I guess ....
I mean, I could talk crap about Amy Shumer, but I don't bother. She's got her issues, and while I may have dropped a comment once or twice, at some point she might be descending in her career arc and I don't want to pile on.

So if Oprah on a baked ham is funny to you, ... whatevs.

reply

Oh good God, no offence intended to the Queen of television! Let’s see.. how about like Woody Harrelson on a bong? Like Bill Clinton on an intern? Like Donald Trump on a tube of tangerine at-home tanning cream?

Point is people tend to attack others here without provocation. Like Snepts on a comment by Theta.

Lighten up kid.

reply

It's because Oprah has a lifelong history of being fat. I thought it was funny.

Oprah didn't have to be fat. She chose to.

reply

No one forced you to come in here or post or read anything in politics.. Quit bitching

reply

That's the thing... I honestly wouldn't give a shit if the politics were kept to this board exclusively. However, that hasn't been the case, and I am seeing more and more political discussions spill over to various movie and celebrity pages. The moderators have stated that doing this is against the rules multiple times (granted, they don't do shit about it, but it's still worth noting). I don't want to have to see people commenting on how "Elliot Page should kill herself" in the comments of his page, and people circle jerk their political opinions about it; it's disgusting and it makes me sick. I came here to talk about movies. That is the title of the damn website: "MovieChat". I have been here since this website's genesis when the IMDB message boards went down, and everyone was scrambling to find a new site. It would just be nice if we kept the politics to this board, and not have them spill over to other non-related forums at the very least. Thanks.

reply

Well maybe Ellen shouldn't have cut her boobs off and people wouldn't talk about her mental illness. And trans people have a high suicide rate so I'm sure it won't be too long til she checks out

You gonna cry

reply

This is about as disgusting as anything I've ever read here.
Please reconsider your contributions. They are not helpful, much like shitting on a public street isn't to be admired.

reply

Oh trust me RandallGraves is quite the stand up individual. He mocked Chadwick Boseman's cancer when discussing Black Panther with me. He is about as disgusting as they come.

reply

I thought you had me on block. How's your boy Floyd doin? Still dead?

reply

And yet people like you hold up San Francisco, with actual human shit covered streets, as a liberal paradise.

Cry more

reply

I have found it relatively easy to keep my political chat on the Politics board and my pleasant Movie and TV banter on the rest of the site. Took me a little bit to figure it out, but for the most part I did.
Why a lot of people can't do as well, I don't understand, but that's just me. The Kip Kinkles and Tim McVeighs and Unabombers will do what they do regardless of negative public approbation.

reply

Who's bitching now?

reply

You

reply

I agree. I just come here for the same reason I visit foxnews.com, to read the incredible desperate screeds all the deplorables feel that they must inject into any free anonymous chat board they happen to find. For intelligent and sometimes humorous comment sections, I go to Wapo and NYTimes (occasionally, Slate or Daily Kos or Talking Points Memo).

reply

Intelligence at WaPo and the NYT?

I think there you will only find propaganda and retractions from bad reporting. Judging from your comment, it seems the propaganda is working.

reply

Why don't you start a movement to cancel Moviechat, then?

reply

That's not very tolerant and inclusive of you. Need to have everything be diverse. Just you only hearing your own words or people that only think like you would be so dull that when you go out to face reality, it'll throw you back to the safe space you've setup at home.

If you just want to talk movies, ignore the politics board and focus on topics you want to discuss by creating your own threads or joining those that are talking about something specific you want to engage in.

reply

Everyone has their personal choice to click on the movies or politics section.

The problem is why is politics such a hot topic today, especially in the young.

I spent most of my youth playing sports, hanging out with friends, partying. Having some much much while young I would never stop for a second to.think about politics

Today its ingrained in every aspect of society.

reply

There wasn't always a Political forum.

It started after Trump ran for president. His ugly mug popped up nonstop in the trending subjects and people eventually complained. The Politics board was created to address that.

Politics and racist nonsense predate the Politics section. They've always been there and in the predecessor IMDB boards, too. I notice that since Trump left office, the racist nonsense has flourished in the Politics section especially anti-black.

IMDB had plenty of trolling, but most of it was original, clever, lighthearted and funny. A lot of it was directed toward the shows.
