This website should be about movies, not politics... now whenever I go to a celebrity's page or a movie's page, it is swamped with republican talking points that have nothing to do with filmmaking at hand. God, this website has fallen from grace, which once showed promise...

Oh really... "Moviechat" was set to conquer the world was it? Wow. Usual hideously pretentious tripe which you'd expect from one of the 60 or so million sad souls who actually voted for Biden.

Jeezus effing krist, these people want to make America the next Fascist Stronghold, on the lines of North Korea and Putin's regime.
MF, whats wrong with people these days? They could see a man kicking a puppy on the street and come up with some excuse why it's good for the country !
It’s had a political board since day 1. Trumps face has been leading the trending page since day 1. Because the brainless lemmings can’t help themselves.
I share the same sentiments as OP, and yeah, I have been coming here a lot less and found alternatives to discuss movies. But that doesn't mean it isn't a lil sad to lose this site, as I really like the no censorship and moderation aspect of it, but that sadly had the negative consequence of making it a congregation between the misfits of the internet.
And the alternatives just don't hit the same as the early days of this site tbh. But thus is the internet, either you get over moderated echo chambers or Trump supporting lunatics. And honestly, the former is somehow the better choice, even though the latter can be fun in bursts.
The site's vibe has just gone down. Sure, I've had some decent discussions, but a majority of the time to even get a response you gotta be a bit controversial. Like the most discussing I've done is when I shit on the SW prequels or TDKR and some lunatic defends them to no end. Contrast that to the past where I spent paragraphs discussing Children of Men with someone, we both loved the movie and were just kinda discussing the themes and such.
But now you gotta wade through so much shit to get to the good stuff that I'm sure the decent people have mostly given up on this site just like me. And I'm not only shitting on the politics board here, general discussion is just as cancerous if not more, and I think if both were removed along with some other problem boards, the site would be better for it.
If you go to the politics board, I mean, you know what you're going to get. It's in the name.
General Discussion is usually boring to me as it seems that only rarely is anything interesting actually discussed.
I think the best bet is to start discussions--or reply to existing comments--on the boards for individual films. That was you should get some good, targeted, film-related discussion. Of course if you choose a woke film to talk about then some people will probably mention that it is indeed a woke film, though you may be able to avoid this by discussing a specific aspect of the movie.
I think if both were removed along with some other problem boards, the site would be better for it.
My god, yet another censorship warrior. Where the hell are all of you coming from? Let me say this in CAPS for the people supporting banning and censoring speech in the back…IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT, DON’T ENGAGE IN IT!
Such a simple concept that so many people can’t wrap their heads around. People are allowed to say things you don’t like and things you don’t agree with! You supporting banning that speech makes YOU the bad guy!

But that's their right !
If you throw a party and invite me, I have the right to gripe and moan and complain and ruin the party.
No reason to get along and enjoy the company of the rest of us.
Just endlessly cry and moan and throw a hissy fit about how it's not the way you want it to be.
No one is paying attention to you !
Honestly, it was not the right who has decided to inject politics into every known aspect of the internet and beyond. I'm pretty sure you know that.
If you want to talk particular aspects of film and filmmaking, there are plenty of politics-free threads here. If you want to talk about cinematography, I'm sure no one will come in and type "because Biden has dementia".
It's not that the discussions are too political. The problem is Biden's presidency has made him so popular as well as divisive. But the reality is he gets criticized for who he is more than what his politics are. He gets criticized for being a bigot, idiot, narcissist, awful businessman with multiple bankruptcies, who can't even talk properly. Most of it has nothing to do with his current job. But his current job gets him lots of media attention.
I get it that the idea is to limit the amount of time Biden's face is on the front page and I get it that political discussions on this board do not fit in with the original intent behind the site. But the idea that all negative comments about Biden and his personality shouldn't be allowed because he's president also goes against the original intent of the site. But because the man is such a flipping moron the only real way to reduce his face time on the front page is basically to remove his face from the front page.
This is what I always see from the Far Wrong.
Every shitty thing the Far Wrong is guilty of, they ascribe to the opposition.
Biden is a career politician with a good heart. Being a career politician doesn't endear me to him, but he's always shown himself to be a decent human. But the recent ex-prez is an absolute and demonstrated creep, so the only thing the Far Wrong can do is characterize Biden in the same terms the D Jack-ass T deserves because they have no other ammunition to gather.
My god, no one admires Politicians, but when djt decided to become one, that's like Lead Pipes in Flint, Michigan. Toxic.
I get it that you need a president to bloviate about how great he is behind a podium and on twitter, but the majority just aren't interested in that.
Biden isn't perfect. He's the recently-cleaned carpet with a grape juice stain on it. But Trump was the shit-stained carpet before it was cleaned. We'll take what we can get, and that's why uncle Joe sits at 56%.
"He gets criticized for being a bigot, idiot, narcissist, awful businessman with multiple bankruptcies, who can't even talk properly."
Wow, so Biden is criticized in the exact same way as Trump.
You're upset at the lack of roadblocks to prevent biological males from doing that, and misconstruing those lack of roadblocks as actions by the left to make it happen. The left doesn't have to do anything. It's up to the public to vote on it, not just the left. Whichever side has majority approval is the side that wins. That's how democracy works. What you don't like is your subconscious telling you the left has majority support, which they probably do. Sucks for right-wingers, but that's not my problem.
Often times you don't have to be the majority, you simply either have to either be the loudest voice in the room or you have to occupy some position of power. There's nothing democratic about it and there are plenty of things happening in the country that don't have majority support. Are we going to go to the polls to vote on whether guys who go trans get to crush actual girls in girls' sports? I would love for that to be the case.
Having the loudest voice in the room carry over a majority in a vote may work at the beginning, but it loses in the long run, because of democracy. That is why gay marriage did not pass until 2015 even though it had the support back in 2005. People just weren't loud enough.
Are we going to go to the polls to vote on whether guys who go trans get to crush actual girls in girls' sports? I would love for that to be the case.
You want a ballot that says: vote on whether guys who go trans get to crush actual girls in girls' sports
Whereas a real ballot would be similar to: vote on whether transwomen should be allowed to compete with women in sports
Your ballot is another example of the "loudness" used to undermine a majority. It works at the beginning, but fails in the long run.

We The People will never actually vote on this issue. The governing bodies in sports will make the decision unilaterally, probably influenced to some extent by which interest groups put the most pressure on them.
