I'm getting bad Mueller Probe/Trump Impeachment vibes about this election

Perhaps after four years of this Twilight Zone Trump insanity I'm merely growing increasingly cynical about matters of our government...or maybe I'm right to worry.

The Era of Trump is also the Era of the Bizarre. Anything that seemed laughable before seems like a possibility now. Things we never thought a president would do--let alone get away with--have been done.

Our system is so broken. Our manner of government so flimsy. Post office corruption. Voter suppression. Voter intimidation.

I don't know--I'm getting very bad vibes the closer we move to election.

The Mueller probe seemed like a sure thing--then suddenly Barr entered into the mix and Mueller (who showed no signs of stopping any time soon) suddenly wrapped his investigation up in an instant, went radio silent and gave an interview where it seemed like he was playing dumb/trying to run out the clock like someone instructed him to reveal as little as possible.

Then the impeachment.

No actual trial was held in any typical sense. Suppressed witnesses. Suppressed testimony. Nothing. Then he's just acquitted--*snap*--just like that. Crimes in plain sight. People with impeccable reputations left and right all coming forward with similar accounts of the same story--nothing. They were all shut down.

This is the sort of thing that, in any other era with any other president, we would have been shocked beyond belief. With Trump? Nothing...just......nothing. Almost no pushback from the dems on any of it. No real investigations into any of it. Nothing. What the hell? After four years, I'm still trying to figure out how this guy is running around, doing what he's doing, and people have the most nonchalant reaction to it all. Dems say little to nothing and, instead, focus on less important things to "Ding" him on. His supporters don't even care. Meanwhile, those of us anti-Trump people as well as other countries are all throwing their hands up, going "What the fuck? Where's the outrage? Why are people just shrugging all this off as if it's nothing?".

And I don't mean to offend any dems in here--we have a common enemy in Trump--but I seriously haven't seen the type of blowback from the dem officials such as Pelosi regarding any of this. Instead, there's this sense of "Well, oh well. Nothing we can do about it" type of attitude and they move on to something piddly such as a Trump affair or something.

And this tax returns issue. Just how many fucking times can this guy APPEAL the fucking matter?

So, I'm at a point where I have zero faith in our government--from either side. Checks and balances are all but dead or nothing more than some symbolic protest against Donald and nothing more. Dems aren't pressing him hard enough and I really don't understand WHY. It doesn't compute in my mind. Quit with the wishy-washy shit and get in there and hold this psycho accountable.

Jesus, when Obama was president, the republicans wailed on that guy and never let up. Dems should have been doing the same to Trump all this time. They did to an extent but not even remotely close to enough. They're not being as aggressive as the republicans.

These are uncharted waters here--you're dealing with rabid wolves here. Taking butterfly nets into that fight will NOT end well. Get in there and get dirty with them. That's the only way to put this psycho in check.

It's pretty sad when the Lincoln Project is doing a better job of going after Trump than the dems are. A group of REPUBLICANS, no less.

If dems aren't careful, Donald will win again. He's ruthless. It may require ruthless pushback at this point. Wishy-washy isn't going to cut it with these people. They have 35% of the electorate on their side--a ruthless 35% of people who would be A-OK with an autocracy...you can't handle opposition like that unless you grow a backbone.

I'm honestly concerned about the election at this point and fear Donald may pull another maneuver to secure a second term. This post office nonsense is ridiculous enough but, if the election is close, Donald will take this fucker to SCOTUS and they will GIVE IT TO HIM. No doubt about it. No doubt about it.

Sometimes I don't know what bothers me more--that most of the goddamn government is allowing this guy to run around crazy with little pushback or the fact that his base doesn't even care. Just look at all this post office nonsense--not ONE Trump supporter gives a damn. Not ONE. It's a non-issue with them. They couldn't care less that Trump is trying to suppress the vote. That's scary in and of itself.

Trump or no, our country is headed in a one-way downward direction and I don't think we'll be seeing a recovery.

The democrats put up a better united front in denying Bernie Sanders the nomination during the primary than the impeachment trial. They think Biden will limp into the White House without a scratch or that Kamala won't face scrutiny over her past complaints about her own running mate. The debates will be a disaster, I can tell.
Trump is a dangerous idiot but the Dems can only hope that they win by sheer numbers when casting their votes. Trump recognizes this, that's why he's railing against the USPS.

Exactly. I'm sick of this wishy-washy bullshit. I find it so baffling that I sometimes wonder if some of the dem officials secretly WANT Donald to win. I mean--it's possible, right? I'm sure SOME of the dems financially benefit from Trump's presidency. Pubs aren't the only ones raking it in. I used to find this notion absurd--then I see the way many dem officials treat Trump like a delicate little flower, all the while he's wailing on them in return.

You know what it's like? It's like a kid being bullied in school with a wishy-washy parent saying: "Fighting him isn't the answer. Just ignore him or try to make friends with him instead." Meanwhile, the bully is pushing/shoving/punching the kid. That's similar to this situation with dem officials and Trump. Sock him in the nose. It's the one thing a bully responds to.

And you're right--they showed more interest in cutting Bernie out. THAT they united on. But Trump? They tiptoe around this orange manchild. What the hell are they afraid of? They have power as well. They are a branch of power within the government. USE IT. At least make a SHOW of being firmly against this guy. Hit him where it hurts. Stop focusing on the stupid shit and GET this guy.

I DESPISE Trump and his administration but they are all good at one thing: attacking their enemies. They're ruthless. They know how to do it. They're very good at it.

This wishy-washy stance is really pissing me off. Trump is dumb. He's a horrible president. EVERYONE knows it. But he has a strength the dem officials aren't taking seriously: he appeals to an unwavering base. He's a clown but he knows how to attract an audience. Even the biggest clowns can draw an audience with enough skill.

People ask me how I can hate Trump but not side with the democrats...this is ONE of the reasons why.

Our country is going to crumble under this two-party system of ours.

I hear you. Add to the pile Trump being an incumbent reminds me of '04 Bush vs Kerry. I don't know what the Dems can do with the Repubs controlling the Senate. Don't have the answers. If Trump wins I'll never post on the Politics forum again I'll keep it strictly movies/TV. We'll know in roughly 60 days.

Yes, it's amazing how powerful the incumbent position is--so powerful that, even with his bungled response to COVID and a crashed economy, he's only 11 points under Biden--that his support base is still holding THAT firm.

This is the shit that scares me. Under ANY other circumstances, I'd despise Biden as a presidential choice, same as I did Hillary...but Trump is really just that bad that I look to Biden as some sort of a reprieve. I DON'T think Biden will be a good president. I just think that anything that isn't Trump or a Trump loyalist at this point can only be an improvement. We've sunk THAT low.

I don't know if I'll continue posting here or not if Trump wins either.

I GUARANTEE that, if Trump wins again, all attention will shift from "Will Trump win a second term?" to "Will Trump leave at the end of his second term or find a way to stay on?". Things are getting THAT bad.

Agree r/ Biden and HC under any other circumstance it'd be different. I'm not in a swing state so it won't matter but one of my friends (few as they are) who voted for Trump last time said that he thinks Trump has screwed everything up, dealt with Covid terribly and he won't be voting for him again. The one area where he still agrees with Trump on is China. Biden needs to hit China hard. Not in a racist /xenophobic way like Trump and most of his supporters but on legit policy. He should steal that issue. The clock is ticking though so better get on it.

It would be nice if Biden became more than a prop. Let's hope!

I'm not really a fan of most of our presidents of late so I don't expect much from Biden. He's not Trump. That's literally the one compliment I can pay him right now.

I'm just worried that a Biden presidency will be little more than a lull to carry us to 2024. That still sounds better than 4 more years of Trump. That's the sad part.

It's nice to hear your friend renounced Trump. I guess it's true that some Trumpers are waking up after all.

Take a douche, and you'll feel fine ! 🤪
