Trump stumbles in first efforts to control virus response as fear spreads and markets fall

Fears over the coronavirus had escalated while Trump was abroad, setting off a chain reaction of concern and criticism, including a stock market sell-off that had erased more than $1.5 trillion in wealth over the prior two days -- a dangerous sign for the US economy and Trump's reelection prospects.

Trump's mishandling the coronavirus threat is going to cost American lives. Of course his supporters don't care.

Trump is responsible for the Wu Flu and the Stock Market now. Holy fucktarts, you fools give him a lot of power. If he did actually have that much power, the wall would be DONE. Stop spreading bullshit.

reply

Well realistically when it comes to the stock market Trump has no one to blame but himself for this particular line of bullshit. He has tweeted dozens (hundreds?) of times over the past 3 years claiming stock market gains are proof of how great his Presidency is. Now that the market is having the worst week since 2008 he's going to have to accept people seeing this as a negative reflection on him as well. It's 9:45 AM and the DOW is down over 600 points.....this on top of the over 3000 points it's already dropped this week. Considering how closely Trump himself has tied the stock market to his Presidency, of course people are going to be criticizing him for this.

reply

Why did the stock market go up, pray tell?

Now tell me why the stock market is sliding. If you do your homework and do it correctly, you'd see some interesting results.

reply

I don't need to do homework on this particular issue. The whys of the rise and fall are irrelevant to my point; Trump himself has tied his presidency's success so closely to the stock market through his constant tweets on the issue that when it falls it's going to reflect poorly on him. Realistically there are those who will blame Trump for everything bad no matter what and there are those who will never hold him accountable for anything bad no matter what. But what both groups need to realize is that a good part of the population just boil it down to a very basic equation: market up = good for Trump, market down = bad for Trump.

reply

The whys of the rise and fall are irrelevant??? Seriously?

I don't think you know the reasons why a stock market rises and falls with a statement like that.

And you fall into that population the believes in that basic equation based off of your own words. You try to state you're non-partisan, but everything you state contradicts that point. It kind of makes you a phony. Talk to ultraviolent. I think you'll find common ground.

reply

Yes, the whys of the rise and fall are irrelevant to the point I was making (which you seem determined to ignore). Since Trump himself tied his presidency's success so closely to the stock market, to the general public it's going to reflect badly on him. Whether it's right or wrong, also irrelevant, it's just how it is.

And I didn't say I'm non-partisan. I'm actually very partisan. I think Trump is awful and I can't wait for him to be out of office and I hope I don't have to wait until 2024 (and I'm realistic that it's a very real possibility).

reply

So because Trump ties his presidency to the stock market, as you say, and the rise and fall is "irrelevant" because of this, then you're basically saying the people that fall into your "equation" are lacking INDEPENDENT THOUGHT, yes?

reply

Irrelevant to the point I was making, yes. And no I don't think all of those people are lacking independent thought, but I'd say that many people aren't looking to research the stock market and the whys of what's happening...they are concerned simply with the bottom line.

When the stock market was up you would find plenty of people working to explain why Trump wasn't responsible for the rising market but if they're realistic they have to concede that the rising market, regardless of reason, bodes well for Trump. The reverse is also true.

reply

If they fall within your basic equation, how do they have independent thought, pray tell?

reply

Ugh dude I don't feel like going back and forth on the same thing over and over. I was pretty clear in my last message. Last I'll say and if this isn't sufficient then so be it; Most people aren't financially savvy in the ins and outs of the stock market and have no desire to learn. It's boring stuff and considering many average Americans aren't personally invested in the stock market why would they want to bother? They hear about the markets ups and downs just like everyone else but they have no vested interest in it. But when it crashes, these people are going to be looking at the country's leader, especially one who has spent significant time bragging about the rising market, as the one who has to take responsibility. This is as basic as it gets.

reply

So basically you're saying people that base Trump on the stock markets rise and fall are ignorant to all other factors, yes?

reply

You can try to drag me down this road all you want but I'm not following. I've had my say that you've clearly rejected and I'm cool with that.

reply

Don't you see that I agree with you? The point I was making is that posters like dogdump and keelai, and fredo and snepts all fall into your basic equation. Market goes down, it's bad news for Trump regardless of the reasons. That is an example of Ignorance.

I appreciate your "basic equation" in clarifying the Ignorance of other posters. Perhaps this they will take this as an enlightening moment if their fragile egos will allow them a moment of open-mindedness.

reply

Keep in mind you're trying to argue sense with known trolls and morons. Sandman here even admitted he's here "for the lulz".

reply

And dogdump admitted trolling for entertainment too. So he should be discounted too, yes?

You're smaht, right Fredo? You can do dings, right? Not like everybody says. Not dumb, but smaht, right? 😂😂😂

reply

After being allowed to lie and cheat his way thru EVERYTHING, of course when faced with his first REAL test Trump can only respond by trying to LIE and CHEAT himself out of a virus. Unfortunately, it is obvious how inadequate the man is to govern. Anyone TRULY believe this man is giving a thought to US? He won't admit the urgency of the situation, how can he protect us? Anyone think his lying is going to have disastrous consequences for the people? Remember the doctored NOA hurricane map? THIS TIME doctoring the FACTS could have PANDEMIC consequences.

Thanks Trumptards!

Translation: I don't wike twump, so I'm gonna bwame him for all the bad stuff, including da sniffles, now where's my pacifier?

reply

A speculation story written to con the left into coming in a see the junk advertising.

reply

How can someone who lies all the time reassure a nation he can take the right steps to address this problem? No one has any trust in this guy. His followers think it's fun-and-games, what a funny joke dumbass is prez. Now what?

reply

It will be over with before elections. But yes around half the country is brainwashed into being a democrat so what Donald says doesn.t matter. Donald will get 50.1% of the vote to go on and be president next term.
