I'm torn by this. On one hand I think she's nuts, on the other I can't help but remember gender is fluid. Maybe race is too and we're wrong for judging her.

Yep, race is the next thing which can just be changed if the subject doesn't identify with it. Also for those who believe in reincarnation neither gender nor race are permanent conditions anyway.
