Do you think the Bond films will ever return to a 2 year release cycle?

From 1962-1989, Bond movies were released at least every two years. The Brosnan era also had a two year cycle (DAD took three years). But the Craig era has been a lot more sporadic.

Do you think this is the new normal, or at some point will they return to releasing a new film every other year?

reply

Every two years is the ideal, excepting studio turnover and unforeseen legal goings on.

But 2 years, the 4 years, then 3 years worked good for me. Big disappointment if they don't make one for 2017, that's how it goes sometimes.

What no man Can give ya. And none Can take away.

It seems to me there are two issues: 1.) the movie budgets are exploding and production is getting more complicated; and 2.) story ideas are getting scarce since they have pretty much run through all of the plots of the original novels

As long as they under performing which they have been doing then no.

reply

Maybe. I'd prefer 2 years, but 3 years is fine.

The Craig films have been stuck in the midst of some extracurricular financial issues among MGM and Sony and all that. I don't doubt Craig would have had a movie in 2010 had it not been for those issues. Skyfall probably would have also been 2011 if not for the 50th Anniversary being 2012.

And the reason SPECTRE was 2015 instead of 2014 is because they waited for Mendes to be available.

It's not that they can't make 'em every two years, it's that there's other things going on.

reply

The producers see it as of late that the 3-year cycle is taking shape, although with these next two films, they've proposed filming back-to-back, since Craig is wanted for two more films, as is Christoph Waltz. So it might be a two-year cycle coming up.

reply

Are they really considered to be under-performing by the producers? Skyfall made $1B+ and the other Craig era has been the highest grossing of the series. Is it because of the cost to make and market them?

reply

Three years would be acceptable, as long as it's consistent.

reply

They should stay in the zone and do them every two years.

It's their job. Their duty, you could say.

I'm motivated by my Duty.
