Is Diamonds are Forever underrated?

I think it may be the best funniest Bond movie in the series. It is lacking on action and budget, but the plot is better than usual. Even Connery said in an interview that he thought that DAF was the best script of them all, before he made the movie.

I think that he has good chemistry with Tiffany Case, and Wint and Kidd are two of the best villains of the series perhaps, but in the case of comedy more that is.

So is it perhaps one of the best, funniest Bond movies?

reply

It is one of the funniest in the dialogue division, definitely. Wint and Kidd are great (though mainly for the dialogue, once again). That doesn't compensate for all the other shortcomings. Not saying all of the remainder is bad, but comedy alone doesn't make a good Bond movie. So I guess it deserves being down there in the bottom five.

For me the bottom five is:

QOS
AVTAK
TB
TMWTGG
TLD

I wouldn't put it that low at all. Maybe around #9 in the bottom 10.

There's issues, no doubt, but overall it's hilarious and an absolute blast to watch. I've always loved it.

I don't understand why people are against Blofeld as a woman. The disguise makes sense, cause Blofeld wanted to leave the hotel undetected, and agents were less likely to look to the women to find him. So it made sense enough.

It's much better than Bond disguising himself as a Japanese man, and for some reasons fans accept that better. Why?

reply

It's just stupid. Bond "becoming" (I put quotes around that because he doesn't really become one at all, they just give him fake eyebrows and flatten his hair) Japanese is stupid too.

People accept neither but neither have much of an impact with the rest of their respective movies. I've never seen anyone say/post "DAF is superb in all aspects, but Blofeld dressing as a woman makes it a bad movie". Likewise with YOLT.

Well as far as the funniest Bond entries go, Moonraker is still the best but DAF is a possible contender for second maybe.

reply

Disagreed. DAF is the funniest, its only competitor being LALD.

Mankiewicz was talented with clever dialog.
