How come Bond went back to the ship in FYEO?

Basically after Bond and Melina go underwater to get the ATAC, they are attacked for the ATAC, not just by one guy, but a second guy in a sub as well. After defeating both of Kristatos's men, Bond and Melina, decide to go back to their ship that they came on, before going underwater to find the ATAC.

But why do they do this? Surely they must suspect that Kristatos and his men have taken over the ship, and have spotted it, before going underwater. So why would Bond and Melina go back to the ship, when it's likely been seized?

Also, the movie tries to reveal that the men are on board the ship in a Gotcha surprise sort of way, but did anyone not see this coming?

Bond had the bends and wasn't thinking clearly, after yakking it up after promising not to talk so much when diving, and getting conked on the head.

Now, this is a signature gun, and that is an optical palm reader.

Wasn't Bond & Melina's vehicle damaged in the battle of the mini-subs? It was flooding, IIRC.

Perhaps they had no choice but to go back to the (surface) ship.

Send her to the snakes!

Why not just use their scuba tanks, including the one that Melina originally left down there, further aways, and just use the air to swim away, under water, and get to the shore?

You can see some shore in the background of the shark sequence, so they are not too far off.
