Villian Elimination. Blofeld(YOLT) vs Kananga
So Carver is through after another whitewash and Kristatos is out.
I would like to explain, for the next match up, for the purpose of this tournament, I shall treat all four Blofelds as seperate characters. I think we can all agree that each portrayal should be judged on its own merit, and they vary wildly in tone and characterisation.
Blofeld(YOLT) vs Kananga
So a fairly big match up here. On the one hand we have Kananga. He is a pretty solid villian, I don't think he is too close to the top, but a good all rounder. He offers a decent physical threat to Bond and was pretty groundbreaking at the time, being the first(and so far only) black Bond villian. I think he would have been more interesting if he had actually been Mr.Big masquerading as a Carribean diplomat rather than the other way round. I found the chemistry in the scenes between the Mr.Big incarnation and Roger Moore amusing.
An now we move on to the first true incarnation of Blofeld, at least the first fully realised one. Donald Pleasence brought a very creepy and off kilter demeanour to the Spectre mastermind, and his final reveal didn't dissapoint. He obviously offers no physical threat to Bond. Despite his diminutive presence, he is extremely memorable. Let us not forget this portrayal has become one of, if not the most iconic(as well as lampooned) villian in cinema history. The nehru suit, bald head, scarring and white feline have all become go to elements for scores of villians since.
My pick: Blofeld(YOLT).
